Default Problems with Google Maps

Please Login to Remove!

I just had to re-install Google Maps on my Bold and noted that there is now a version 3.0.1.. I downloaded it and the GPS will not pinpoint my exact location at all. It pins it within 3500 metres but then says "waiting for GPS" but never gets more exact. I have had this before but within a minute or so it finds me. Is this a problem with the new release and if so where could I find older versions as I looked everywhere. I have uninstalled and installed several times but no go.

You need to go to Options advanced GPS and refresh the sateLlite.

I spoke a little too soon. It worked but upon exiting and re-entering the program again the problem still exists.

Yes I have noticed this and it has been bugging me since updating to the newest version. It will get a 3 meter lock but it takes a very long time on my Curve. Before installing version 3.0 and 3.0.1 i would get a 3 meter lock in seconds, now it take like 5 minutes to get it. I have not seen a fix for this anywhere yet, in fact, looking for a fix is how I found this thread. I was thinking for awhile that it was just my Curve causing the issue but now at least I know others are having the issue too.

I went into Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS and disabled Location Aiding .. that seems to have helped make it somewhat faster in getting a 3 meter lock

Is there a way to find the older versions to install? The site I downloaded it from only has the new version as an option.

If you exit the basement(jk), and go outside it will find you again. Give it a chance. It works fine on the BOLD.

I have also noticed that since I upgraded to Google Map 3.0.1, it takes several minutes for it find the 3 metre lock (if ever). I have even had to reboot my Bold in order for it to find the satellite lock. When I had v2.3.3, it worked within a few seconds. I would like to go back to the older version but do not know how to reload it. Can anyone help?

I think i might have solved this problem on my curve. it has been really good about getting a 3 meter lock all day.

go to options -> advanced options -> applications -> find and highlight google maps -> menu -> edit permissions

On my phone it had allow for the Connections and User Data but Custom for Interactions i changed Custom to allow and it has been real good all day so far.

Unfortunately this didn't improve things for me. I agree with the above poster, it seems to be the new version as the 2..... etc didn't have problems locking into your location at all. I found an old version 2.2.2 today and when I installed that it has no problems finding my location within 20 seconds. The only downfall to this version I found was that when I typed in an establishment to search there would be no typing in the box, however, it would still locate it. A little flaw in the version I think. I, too, have 2.3.3 on my Curve before and it was the best one out yet, however, cannot find it to download.

I am sorry to hear it didnt work for you, pokey. It hasnt fixed me 100% but it does seem to be a lot faster in getting a 3 meter lock.

I have this issue with Live Search maps and Google maps...takes forever to get a lock if it does...

bb maps works great, but not my favorite map to use...
the telnav and garmin maps were the best two I have tried and would get locks in about 10 seconds.

I find it odd that we can't find older versions of google maps like the 2.3.3, but I guess they do this so that people will use the newest version thats out.

There are definitely threads with download URL's for older versions. I can guarantee that you'll find the exact version you're looking for. However, if you think you'll need to downgrade then save the download URL.
