Notwithstanding what the website says, GPS has worked with googlemaps on the blackberry for about a month now, since version 1.5.1.

On the 8800, yes.
It will not with the internal GPS on the 8830 and 8703e from Verizon.

Thanks. Just checking. I know it won't work with any VZ BB as the GPS is locked. There was a suggestion in another thread that google maps didn't work correctly with the 8800.

I upgraded to Google Maps 1.53 on my Verizon 8703e. Prior version of google maps was working fine. Installation went fine but when I try to launch the program I get the following message

"Error starting gmaps$2d153$2dm2_L1:Module 'gmaps$2d153$2dm2_L1' has verification error 2831 at offset ad6e.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling several times but I get the same problem

Anyone know what I should do or where I can get the download to get back to 1.52? Thanks

EDIT

Ok, found out how to get back to 1.52 by searching the web.

1. Go to Google Mobile
2. Submit your phone number and follow the instructions on the
message.
3. Select the services you want to use like Maps, Search, News, Gmail.
4. Have fun.

rdlaub, I'll be using an AT&T 8800 so I shouldn't have any problems. Sorry to hear you're having troubles with it.

I always wanted the google map on BB but end up using BB Maps for only 1 reason, the direction you are moving to is always at the top of the BB instead of north being always on top like it is on the google maps, is that fixed now or is there an option to let the map rotate now?

Thanks. It appears to be a common problem. Not sure why.

GPS has been available since 1.5.1.
I believe 1.5.3 added better support for the 8300 which was released after GMM 1.5.2.

Yes, I have the same problem and it's highly annoying. On the other hand, the GPS tracking and updating of the location seems more stable which is good.

I installed Google Maps on my 8703e last week. I'm assuming it's 1.5.2? Is the software set up to automatically update on its own or do you have to remove the older version and then install the newer one?
