Default AT&T Visual Voicemail--where is it?

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know or understand why AT&T won't release visual voicemail for the BB, when the software on both their end and in the BB OS current versions is obviously available to do so?

Is it a legal or intellectual property issue?

It's really too bad, because there are so many situations in which the phone has been or out of range, and then there is a VM waiting, and you have to listen to it rather than screen the VMs.

I'm sure many people would be willing to pay for it as an optional feature.

Last time I looked AT&T still hadn't released an OS that supports it, so I doubt they'll release the service books until they have an OS release. Given their history of releasing updates, don't hold your breath.

Yes, but the question is, "Why?"

The OS releases for other carriers all have the VVM capability. AT&T's latest OS, 167, doesn't have VVM--they updated the OS to fix some connection issues, apparently. I realize they won't send the service books until they release an OS with VVM.

So--it's circular. AT&T is holding back VVM, and for no /apparent/ reason.

Maybe someone here knows the reason. Or maybe not.

It's not like this delay is an anomaly, they've always been very slow to release OS updates for BB devices compared to other carriers. I don't think the reason has anything to do with VVM.

Hopefully BB wont let them charge us for it, when it's free on the iPhone...

It is working within ATT but for now they have not released it to the public. Like the iPhone the VVM servers are seperate and very data intensive. So it could be more of a capacity issue at this point as they build up those dedicated servers to accommidate the addtional load that will occur when the masses are using it.

So ATT better get their act together regarding their bandwidth issues. They want to make millions off of the iPhone and BB "business" users...well, guess what? That type of income requires that your network be crazy capable of ridiculous bandwidth. Clearly it's straining under their current usage (i.e. see Slingplayer for iPhone restrictions).

If ATT continues to expand and take people's money, they really need to spruce up their data network capability. I want my visual VM for BB. Do what you have to ATT. We pay you good money (meanwhile Sprint/Verizon are blazing along with no data capacity issues whatsoever....)

Att is best cell provider right now for most US people, Verizon voice quality is lame compared, I've had both. Sprint, plz you get a lot but get shitty coverage and customer service.

Not quite sure why you are dying to get VVM for the bb, regular voicemail has worked for ages and works just fine, VVM will be a nice addition no doubt though.

I downloaded the most recent OS from Vodafone and that is when I noticed the Visual Voicemail icon. I called AT&T for an unrelated issue but did ask the rep if he knew anything about it (sounded like he didn't) but placed me on hold for a minute and came back to tell me that AT&T will MOST LIKELY be releasing it in the near future. As we all know, that means nothing when it comes from AT&T. I wouldn't hold my breath on it...
