Does anyone know if this release fixes the low ring-tone issue?

My big reason, or least one of them, for switching back to 4.1.xx was the lack of ability to do the "ALT Scroll" thing. As in hold the ALT button and be able to scroll the screen using the scroll wheel. This is a must in Repligo and some other programs. Enough to make me switch back.

When I did switch to the 4.2 earlier is was the "Venezuela" one.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed/changed in the later versions on 4.2?

thanks.

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

How come all American carriers still haven’t released OS 4.2 to customers while European and South American countries are ahead of us?

I have been using this for about a day and it seems as though the ring tones are still low compared to the 4.1.x OS.

It seems to me that I am able to do this with the 4.2.1.94 OS. When using the ALT + Scroll wheel I am able to scroll a page at a time in the address book and the web browser.

Because carriers are free to do what they wish, and all have different requirements for stability and features.

Why not? Gives more incentive for users to buy another BB to get the new features. I've always said that 4.2 would happen after the 8800 dropped -- I just didn't know that it would take this long

No problems so far with this release, it's running great with no lag however it lagged for about five minutes after the install. Ringtone volume is good but I don't know about the earpiece.

Anyone?

thanks.

So far, the install has been successful. However, I only have the three BB themes available, no other carriers. Furthermore, the BB Dimensions Zen theme works but not totally. Normally, I should be able to get an application list when hitting the center convenience key(Like the Start button in Windows), but the only thing that happens is that it switches views (no list appears). Furthermore, the Service LED continues to stay on even though I have it set to 'off' in the options. I'm also missing the SMS/MMS app that normally comes with the Zen theme.

I've just re-loaded the blackberry.alx file listed on this thread. The BB is booting up now. I'll post my results after. Any ideas?

Ok, After installing the attached blackberry.alx file, I have all of the themes listed above. I am still having the problem where my center button is not showing an application list, instead it just goes to Icon view.

The Service LED has stopped flashing, so that does not seem to be a problem. I also found that there is a preference in the Messages options that allows you to split email and SMS mailboxes into two separate mailboxes. So, as I can see it, I just need to get the app menu going and I'll be fully functional.

Volume seems to be fine, too.

This is the functionality on all handheld apps 4.2.x+

I believe there is a difference between the BB Dimension Zen themes from OS 4.1 to 4.2. I do remember on v4.1 it would bring up a list of the applications, but the 4.2 theme just switches to the icon view. I haven't found a way to change this, as I believe it is there by design.

Would someone running this OS test something out for me? Use the Vodafone theme and on the "today" screen try to access the main menu by pushing the center button. For some reason (and this may be related to the post before mine regarding Zen) it doesn't work for me. It worked fine on the Chinese version, so I'm not sure what is going on. Also, the Alt + Enter won't lock my handheld. Anyone else having this troubles?

This is with the blackberry.alx from this thread.

Thanks!

Did you change the soft key setting in Options -> Screen/ Keyboard to something other than the applications list? Is al+enter configured to change the input method?

Perfect Storm:

Thanks! For some reason it worked in the previous versions of 4.2 out of the box, but this one I had to manually configure. Oh well, everything else in this version seems to work just fine for me.

Yes, alt + enter changes input language.

Yes, alt + enter changes input language.
After it asks to change the language it should pop up with a dialogue asking if you want to keep that shortcut available
