Default Windows 2000 not recognizing RIM USB inf driver

I am seeing yellow exclamation point next to USB Device in Device Manager. When I reinstall the driver Windows continuously reloads the same generic USB driver instead of the needed OEM8.inf file. Blackberry will not work with the generic driver. Windows fix KB822831 does not work either...

Try reinstalling the device manager possibly.

Sounds like the device-driver itself is the one you want, manually load the BB usb driver from:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers\

Blackberry/Windows USB driver is the problem, not the Desktop Manager...

Exclamation point beside USB Device or USB Hub / USB Root Hub / USB Host Controller ?

If it's a USB Device, then it should be the device itself not the USB hub / controller... the path above is for the BB USB driver.

Installing Blackberry driver from Common Files, RIM, etc. does not work., Windows does not recognize the driver. The user has now told me the BBerry will not charge from his USB port either. It does charge from another pc, however. I'm beginning to think this is a USB port problem and not a driver issue...

Stupid question, but it has to be asked... have you tried re-booting the PC. Sometimes (noticeably on dell's) the USB ports will die and nothing short of a cold-boot (turn off and wait 20 seconds) will bring them back to life.

Don't know if that'll help at all, but it's worth a try.

If you get a yellow exclamation mark, the usb port is reconizing something but is sticking with an incorrect driver.
Try this procedure.
1. With the BB plug into the USB, go to device manager. Right click on the RIM icon with the yellow exclamation mark and click "uninstall driver".
2. Unplug the BB and go to "add/remove programs" and remove BlackBerrry desktop manager.
3. Reboot computer and re-install BB desktop manager.
4. With desktop manager running, plug in the BB unit.

Sounds elementary, but after a hard reset of the BBerry, the proper driver picked-up. Problem solved. Thanks for your input...
