Default Tmobile to Verizon - will I regret it??????

Hello - I am currently using 7230 on Tmobile but use a VZW cell phone and would love to be able to combine the 2. Tmobile is not an option for a phone because the coverage is spotty in my area.

So will I really regret the switch? I am satisfied with the speed of the 7230 and the ease of use. If I do get the VZW BB I plan on getting the 3rd party web surfing solution.

Will this be a huge regret? Anyone do this switch and regret it or did it and is satisfied?/

thanks!!

Well with Verizon phones you are pretty much locked into their network for blackberries because they are CDMA and do not use a SIM card. SO if you change carriers and get you blackberry unlocked, it may not work outside that network.

Cingular may be a better solution then you can get a quad band GSM phone that will also work with T-mobile when unlocked.

thank you but coverage is what is most important for me and VZW CDMA is the best in my area. I really do not plan on changing carriers. I know VZW BB is not as "good" as the GSM versions I am just trying to find out how much worse it is?

thanks

I think you have answered your own question. I have been with VZW and the legacy companies for many, many years. I travel frequently and I have really not come across any large areas without service. I think Cingular/ATTWS is going to be a strong comptetitor once everything is synched. That being said, however - I think on a wide scale the VZW coverage is impossible to beat. Sure in one small area TMo or Cingular may have better service, but try straying more than 3 miles from a highway in a remote area and see how your T-Mobile will do. In my quest to find the best coverage, I have tried every available major network and I have yet to find one that comes close to Verizon.

Is the 7750 BB slower than the rest? YES
Does it have less memory than the rest? YES
Is Verizon slow to move on BB Technology? YES
Do you need a 3rd party for Web browsing? YES

Those are the bad things. Here is the bottom line:

Are you going to have service in more places with Verizon over any other carrier? YES

It all depends on how important coverage is to you. For me, coverage is the most important. My blackberry is slower than most and has less memory than most and Verizon isn't at the forefront of BB technology, and I have to pay for hosted BES. HOWEVER, I cannot even count the times that I have been with my wife (Nextel 7520) where she has a faster BB with 2 processors and a ton of memory and built in browsing, etc, etc, etc but she has no service. During those occasions, she has a brick and I have a BlackBerry. I don't mind if it is slow as long as I have service, and it is extremely rare that I don't have service.

That's just my opinion that if you were able to see my posts before the crash, you would see a common theme in my posts. I should just have something ready to copy and paste

Of course, on caveat is international service. CDMA only works in a handfull of countries outside of North America so if you do a lot of international travelling, you may want to consider another carrier.

BTW, I have no fiduciary connection to Verizon Wireless. I am just a long-time happy customer.

thank you for your opinion, I think the best I can do is try it out for the 15 days and see while maintaining my tmobile one. If I find it acceptable then I will cancel the tmobile account.

If there is anyone else with a similiar response or complete opposite let me know

thanks again

That was the best breakdown of VZW vs. NXTL blackberries I've ever heard. I sat next to a guy on a train last week who had a VZW blackberry and my NXTL would not work at all (MBTA Boston->Worcester line) and hiz VZW worked great.

I always thought that when you're on Nextel's network, you would always have all the features, but lately i've been seeing a lot of "Nxtl" or "nXtl" service...partially-enabled. Master resets, resending service books, NOTHING fixes it, so it must be a coverage issue. To reiterate, I always thought if you had NXTL signal you could access all the features, but I see that is not the case.

I was able to make an interconnect call but not a dispatch in these circumstances, and vice-versa. There is not and has never been a restriction on my account. Anyone have any better explanation for this partially-enabled service?

Nexwoo -

Did the Worcester - Boston commuter rail for awhile myself. I graduated from Holy Cross in 1999. I grew up in Worcester. I now live in RI. Are you from the Worcester side or the Boston side of the commuter rail?

I'm in that area all the time, as is my wife. Nextel coverage is usually decent in Worcester and east to Boston. The real issues are north and West of Worcester. Unless you are on the highway - you don't have much.

I'm up and down 146 into Providence all the time too, and Nextel can be spotty in a few areas where VZW is great everywhere.

Good to hear someone "local"

Christopher
