Hey All,
This is huge news. RIM is currently working it so their Media manager will transfer iTunes music onto the Bold!

Yeah, will be interesting to see how that works. I'm wondering if it's part of the 4.6 OS or if it's going to be part of a new Desktop Manager/Media Manager.

I'll believe it when I see it. I can see syncing with iTunes, no problem. But that's nothing. If the Blackberry can actually play iTunes protected tracks, not just iTunes Plus, now that is big.

I don't see Apple allowing that though.

Why not? They've done it before for Motorola phones. The SLVR was actually pretty cool and synced beautifully with iTunes.

The question will be if it will sync up your playlists and podcasts like a normal iPod.

Sidenote (and this coming from a huge Apple fan).... until Apple gets rid of DRM, I WOULD NOT buy any music from iTunes and instead get it from Amazon.com.

Amazon.com is selling DRM-free music at twice the bit rate and at the same price or cheaper than iTunes. If you want you can even install a little app they have that will put whatever you buy straight into iTunes for you. I have stopped all my iTunes purchases now that Amazon has most labels on board and you can get just about anything you are looking for.

DOWN WITH DRM'ed music!!

It would be nice not burning all my music in itunes onto an audio cd then rip them back in all so I can get them on my my media player-the blackberry. I also can't see RIM pulling this off. On the blakberry side we so no competition but Apple having the direct connection of itunes is the only pro to the iphone. The only way I see this happening is with permission from Apple and why would they allow that? The true solution is get music that already comes in mp3 format via Amazon or dogpile.

I would find the RIM Sync option for iTunes to be a huge benefit for me. Finally I would be able to carry just one device as my phone, PIM, web browser, iPod etc. that would be awesome. Seriously I have (2) iPods now one for my vehicle another for everything else. It would be nice to carry just what I needed for quick use, say shopping with my wife, waiting at the dealership etc. I want a full qwerty keyboard that is just something I must have.

Lets just hope it will play protected songs and videos as well. If this is the case, I may have to return to BB.

I will believe the sync with iTunes when I see it. I can't see Apple letting it happen as it would/could hurt iPhone II sales.

What does interest me is that the end of the article in the OP talks about the 9000 external speaker being very good. I would look forward to that for sure. I am also hoping for a little more internal speaker volume as my 8310 and 8820 could have been a tad bit louder!

My guess is Apple could get sued over their iTunes monopoly (it is after all since they have their own DRM and refuse to licensee it)but I would be just as happy with it working only with non DRM music since I don't buy from iTunes I buy the plastic and let the apps do the rest (I pay for what I use)

They have licensed it in the past. Several Motorola phones have been able to play DRMed itunes tracks.

That was because Apple wanted to test the market on iTunes supported phones, Moto screwed that one up and/or Apple used them to see what the market wanted. Either way it was a joke of a test run.

Really, why is that. A case can be made for many things and as I was listening to a podcast recently a Monopoly is more about what you do with it not that you have it. Apple uses their iTunes store to lock users into their iPods, and their DRM into their iPods. People have choices sure, but they are sucked into the Jobs mind meld and lost their way.

Note I didn't say anyone was going to just that they could. MS licensed Active Sync god only knows why you would do that other than to try and protect their Exchange server connectivity.

Its just my opinion.

I understand all of the iPod fans are going to jump all over me for this but...
Why only iTunes? What about windows media player? I can't stand iTunes, it's ram footprint is so large, it installs tons of bloatware, and it's updating software tries to sneak in safari when you download new versions.
Not to say that they shouldn't do it for iTunes, but I hope they support wmp as well. It has been a pain trying to get my songs to my curve...

forgot to add this...
I don't think this is a 9000 series only thing. RIM likes to have their desktop software be universal, i would imagine all this is doing is sending songs from itunes to a folder on the BB. Seems like it would work for any model.

Simple, itunes is the most popular.
