Default os 4.5/8830 for Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

Is there any news on the upgraded OS for the 8830 on verizon? I am really starting to get anxious. I want the docs to go, the voice recording and the HTML email but don't want to use an unofficial version of the software.

Look over the Beta OS section, some threads there.

JSanders,

I did see that thread, but it's still a beta os. I am not confident enough to find, install, configure, and make it work. Then if it doesn't work I would need to uninstall, and reinstall the lower version. All way over my head.

I was hoping for an official release soon.

Oh, I thought from your question, you just wanted "news" about the updated OS... those threads contain all the news and speculation.

The current betas out there really are not any different than the official released versions. In fact, they are most likely better.

There are not even guesses as to when the new software will be released.
Keep watching the forums. First place to find out when vendors release new code.

Yeah, I've been waiting too. I haven't even upgraded to the newest version of the 4.2 software for the 8830 because I keep thinking that the 4.5 OS will be coming out shortly. And I like you don't care to mess with beta software.

I'll admit it's so frustrating to hear everyone reading HTML emails and getting voice recording. I'd really like them, but I don't trust myself to do it correctly.

Sorry, I do see how it was confusing.

honestly, I was the same. I didn't install 4.5.31 when it came out and I'm glad that I didn't, as it was buggy. The .51 is very close to being a carrier-official version. And the method for upgrading is pretty simple. If I can do it, so can you! The trick would be to find a version of .51 for download. It works just like an official OS release and I would highly recommend getting that. There is another one (supposedly) which is out (.60/.61?) which is said to be the closest to the official release; however, .51 runs fine on my 8830.

The most current beta is rather stable which has been addressed on other threads

Agreed I am also running .51, I have not been able to find any other releases that have been rumored on the forums or pinstack such as ".56/.60/.66". I will keep searching. The biggest issue for me has been the memory leakage.

Yeah, I just got a new replacement 8830 due to my mini-usb port quitting on my old 8830 (Verizon replaced it for free) so once I got the new one I went ahead and put the beta software on there. So far so good, I'm quite pleased with the new software, especially how everything is formatted and is much easier to read.

Which version did you find and install?

If one waits for the official Verizon release, will it get pushed automatically to our phone, or do we still have to do it manually? How does one get an official OS update?

Also, does this OS fix the microSD size limitation issue (only microSD <= 2GB are compatible with the 8830)?

Thanks

You will need to install the OS 4.5 upgrade yourself, it is not automatically pushed to the device. However, RIM has promised wireless upgrades from thereon, although it has not occurred yet.

Your Media Card size is limited by the OS on your device...
* BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 - Up to 2GB
* BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 - Up to 4GB
* BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 - Up to 4GB
* BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 - Up to and above 8GB
* BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 - Up to AND above 8GB

I actually read in the release notes for VZW's release of 4.2.2.196 that you it will read an 8 GB SC card. Of Course I haven't testing this yet.

I am running 4.5.0.51 and it eats memory like a hog, get a crapload of unknown numbers calls that die after one ring, BBM conversations getting erased, forever hourglass waiting, aside from those, the upgrade rocks.

I can verify that 8gigs work in that OS.
