Default finding a 8320 for a Canadian

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys I'm new here...well not new to the addiction (and apparently I can't spell Canadian)

I went to buffalo today (to TMOBILE at Walden Galleria) to buy an 8320 no contract and they refused to sell it to me...something about not making money because I'm canadian.

Then when I went to an independent dealer in the mall they said they would sell it but that they had none and to come back thurs.

I'm looking for ebay ones but the price will skyrocket once the auction is done.

Do you guys know Tmobiles policy or the best way to score one to unlock and use on rogers? for around 5 bills

Thanks

jjmwhelan, I suggest you ask one of your buddies or best friend who live in USA who can do it for you, if you willingly pay.. I want to say, GOOD LUCK for find tmobile curve by online or your location stores.

I'm not sure that an 8320's WIFI can be used on Rogers. I don't think they push the service books.

Geez, I hope you're wrong. I just bought one on ebay based on posts in this forum claiming no problems using the 8320's wifi on Rogers,

Note to OP: I found one on ebay in just a couple of minutes. I jumped in with 5 minutes left in the auction, put a max. bid $500 on it and got it for $460. There were several other bidders that backed off at that price (no surprise sine T-Mo sells it for $449 without a contract I believe), so if you're willing to throw down that much, I don't think you'll have a problem with the price skyrocketing.

Is this true...under user frozen' auction is says phone and date work fine in Canada...tested...

I figure the wifi would not be dependent on the service books...

Well, you seem to already have seen the frozen one, where he says wifi works perfectly, then there's this:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...fi-canada.html

With a link to Howard Forums with similar claims. I just searched for Rogers and 8320 on this forum.

I have no idea how Rogers could prevent it, since they support the 88X0 model with wifi, but time will tell. I'll be some pissed if it turns out I can't use the wifi.

And I guess I got lucky with the auction I found, but yeah, I just searched "Blackberry 8320" in ebay.

my older 8320 worked fine (but that wasn't t-mobile)

I am still waiting on the unlock code for the one i have right now. I don't think the wifi is carrier dependant, I have the wifi working fine without the device even having a SIM!!

Which brings up a question I asked (without response) in the new wifi forum: what's UMA, why do I need it and what can't I do without it?

UMA: Unlicensed Mobile Access. It allows you to make voice calls over a wifi connection.

Thanks!

So I assume that's currently the only way to make voice calls over wifi? Interesting. What matters more to me is that I could still get push email though, if I had no grs signal, but wifi access. Possible?

I too am from Toronto on Rogers and am looking for one. I had someone check T-Mobile in Las Vegas and they also refused to sell it without a contract. Independant retailers will, however, sell without a contract and want $700 for it....bs.

Just for the record, I tried it my self as well and wifi works fine even without a sim card. As for uma, you shouldn't worry about that since you need the plan anyways and you can disable uma in the device. I don't think you push email will work with wifi, because it will need to go through blackberry.net, but you can check your regular emails/internet.

Yep you are. But $450 is like what in Canadian $? Oh let me see... $450!!! Plus, it's always better to buy in person than to get scammed by ebayers.

Not sure if I'm crazy enough to pay that much just to get wifi...
