Default Why Is It Even Called The "Onyx"?

Please Login to Remove!

Maybe this "Onyx" name is purely based on rumor. The back of the device clearly reads an engraved "Bold." Why not refer to this as the new Bold, or a second-generation Bold?

I hope RIM will officially name the device Bold because I hate the name Onyx. Reminds me of a stupid rap band back in the early 90's.

This is the real Onyx. No talent whatsoever. Just two hundred hoodlums jumping up and down.

Moving to Rants and Raves.

Most manufacturers give pre-production devices "code names" in the hope that it will prevent information leaks. Needless to say, it isn't real effective.

Soemtimes those code names prove to be popular enough that they continue after the device release, which may be the case here.

No, that's not the real onyx. Onyx is - and was, long before that band - a variety of gemstone, the most popular shade of which is black. I imagine if the pre-production devices were black, that was the source of the name.

+1 877 BLK-BERR

Call and ask for the BlackBerry Naming Group. That should work.

I guess the OP wasn't included in RIM's survey on what to name the next BlackBerry device. Onyx was a clear winner with 64% of the votes...
