Two Carrier 8800 Launch Date
Please Login to Remove!
After seeing the BG scoop that Cingular was going to drop the 8800 in Jan or Feb and then seeing the BBHub report that T-Mobile was going to drop the 8800 w/o camera in mid Jan and the one w/ cam in April I am wondering if the two drops at the same time is an indication of two different exclusivity periods.
My guess is that T-Moble gets the exclusive to the 8800 w/o camera so it can launch it in line with the business consumer in mind by adding access to the T-Mobile Hot Spots as part of the launch plan.
Cingular gets the 8800 w cam for its Jan - Fed launch dates.
Come April my guess is that T-Mobile releases the one w/ cam and Cingular launches the one w/o cam. It looks like both Cingular and T-Mobile users will have a happy New Year.

BG never said that Cingular was releasing the one with the camera then. Everyone one has said the one with the camera will be in the second quarter of 2007.

While a creative concept, this is pretty much a pipe dream. I'd be amazed if the launch went as you've indicated.

Maybe there is no exclusive deal on the 8800 and both Cingular and T-Mobile will launch the non-camera version at the same time.

That has my vote. I hate this exclusive thing and they just need to get the Indigo out when they are ready to both carriers. It is all about money for RIM and by giving it to T-Mo I will NOT leave Cingular to get it. They will sell the most if they release it to BOTH T-Mo and Cingular!

Dude did anyone teach you finance?
Its all about sustained growth & filling up coffers to the brim. Analysts and major stock holders BUY with regard to sustained growth.
After launching both shells for Camera 8800 and SANS-Camera 8800 in the first qtr of the new year; then whats left? Sure their stock will go up to $140-150CAN but it'll DROP like a rock for 2-3 more qtrs until the CDMA providers get their fix of the Pearl and 8800 variants.

I predict both carriers with DROP them both since neither can seem to launch a product with well informed customer service reps.

I heard the "indigo" and "crimson" are an April Fool's joke from RIM to "show us" regarding leaking info! That's just what I heard...

Wouldn't that only hurt RIM? Get a customer group excited about a new product then go "gee guys.. we were just kidding." That would send a lot of people, including myself, to another product. Disrespect your customer base and your stock tanks and the company folds. I highly doubt RIM would play cooperate Russian Roulette just to play a joke.

I agree!
This practice of phones being exclusive to a certain carrier sucks!
I think it seriously reduces the number of units sold because many people do not want to switch carriers or do not know want to go through the hassle of unlocking the device.
Manufacturers out there, just create your new models & make them available to all carriers !
Cheers
