I've been using one since 1998. The first device I had was a RIM 850.

What I can't remember is whether it was Bell South was re-selling the service through Rogers or if Rogers had their own DataTAC network at that time. Does anyone know/remember how Rogers first offered the service?

Rogers never had a datatac network. Rogers operates a Mobitex network, as did Bell South.

I started with a RIM950 in the summer of 1999, and I've been carrying a BlackBerry ever since. Since the 850, I've had a 957 and a 5800. I'm waiting for the 8700, or its 1X/CDMA version.

I almost switched away from BlackBerry to Treo last week (frustrated by the lack of mac or linux support after all these years) but the combination of Treo's move from PalmOS to WinCE and its lack of good push support for email made me stick with BlackBerry for another round.

About 4 months now. I had to buy one on my own because my employer is too cheap. I figure its the cost of doing business. This way I can also do business on the side with it and not feel guilty...as well as trolling bbforums from work

Linux support has to be coming soon. Too many local governments(counties/schools) are switching to ignore. It's just annoying to sit around waiting for it to hit critical mass. I'm sick of having to dual boot win just to synch my bb.

My bad, I think it was a 950, not a 850 I had...such a long time ago.

I went from the 950 to 957, 6710, 7230, 7100, 7290....and soon a 8700

Can't remember if it was the 857 or 957, but my company signed up when the first ones became available. I remember we had the option of the 57 series or the 50's (pager sized)....funny, only one person had the 850/950 model...what a retard. Get my 8700 next week...it'll be my fifth model..i think??

Careful. I liked the 950 much better than the 957. The 957 keyboard was too flat and hard to type on -- it was not until they started raising the keys a little more (62XX, 67XX, 72XX, 77XX series) to be more similiar to the 950.

I did have a few colleagues who prefered the 950 because of its size as well. They found the 957 too big.

I've had my 7280 ever since it came out. Upgrading to the 8700 ASAP. Friggin' sweet!

I got my BB of ebay 2 weeks ago! I sold me Tro650 this week. And I must say that I wish I would have gone right to the BB instead of waisting $350 on a device that iwas too fragile to carry in my environment. Anyway, I am learning and enjoying my BB.

I've been using the 7520 for about 6 months now.

I started with a 7510 in December '04 when they went on massive sale for $100 and had the $100 pda credit.

Now I am on the 7520.

Funny thing is, I've broke 2 i90's and 2 i830's. I used the 7510 for almost a year before upgrading and that thing is still ticking, it even fell off a roof.

I purchased my first BB on my 18th birthday in March of this year. It's still running somewhat strong for what I've done to it in the last nine months or so.
