Default Newb help

hi...im going to purchase my first Blackberry (curve), and i was wondering if the device automatically switches to wi-fi if i have a wireless router, like at home, for instance. I live in a dead spot for cell service, but would like to be able to get my email, etc if im at home with wifi. If so, do i need to set anything on the phone, or is it a seamless transition? Thanks.

It will connect to wi-fi as soon as it finds a router that it has saved previously.

Just as an FYI, depending on what carrier you go with (your profile says Verizon, but I don't know if you're switching) there may be a solution for you, so you can still receive phone calls and SMS/MMS messages.

For example: T-Mobile has their UMA (WiFi Hotspot Calling) feature that uses WiFi to augment their cell towers for phone calls and SMS. Verizon, Sprint and AT&T all offer Femtocells, which are (basically) tiny cell towers that you bring home, set up like a WiFi router, and connect to your home service. Depending, you may be charged for the femtocell (and rumor has it some carriers tried charging people to use it). You will need to register your device with your femtocell, though (but this is to keep strangers from using up one or more of the five device maximum capacity the femtocell has)
