Can someone tell me what are the specification for downloading mp3s onto your BB? do they have to be a certain size or something? I have some clips that i uploaded to my webspace that my ISP provided me, but when i go to the site from my BB and click on the file, it says it can't open that page. When i got some from the links on the forums however, they worked.

If someone could let me know, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Proaud, if you're going to keep pimping your new web site you could at least provide some actual help at the same time. What you're doing is dangerously close to spamming. There's a reason we don't let new members post links right away. You're one of them.

hoopitz, in direct response to your questions: Yes, they have to be under a certain size (500KB I think). And they should be mono to sound best.

I've made a few of my own ringtones and use the following procedure for the best results in Audacity:

1. Load up any MP3 you want. Select the section that you want for your ringer (usually good to keep it under 30 seconds) and select Edit->Trim.
2. In the song workspace, click on the downward-pointing black arrow next to the title of your MP3 and select Split Stereo Track. You will then get two separate tracks in the workspace; click the X on one of them to delete it.
3. Now do Edit->Select->All (Ctrl+A), then Effect->Amplify. In the New Peak Amplitude box, enter -11.0 or so. I find this to be the best target volume for 8700 ringers.
4. Optionally, you can select small segments at the beginning or end of your ringer and do Effect->Fade In or Effect->Fade Out. I usually fade mine out during the last 2-3 seconds.
5. File->Export as MP3. You'll need the Lame MP3 codec DLL on your system, the easiest place to put it is right in the Audacity installation directory.

That's it! Stick it on the web (if you need a place, let me know), download to your BB, enjoy!

I am more than happy to help anyone out. I am not selling or asking for anything. I own a recording studio and am a crackberry addict and that is why I thought I would develop a FREE site for people to share ringtones.

I wish there was a simple formula for creating a working ringtone. They all differ depending on the phone itself.

Generally the ringer needs to be under 20 secs.

The audio needs to be Mono summed at 24 kbps no larger than 100kb.

Algorythms also come into play with ADP files.

The 7130 and 8700 are easier to convert, where the 7100 and 7105 need to be ADP files.

I tried this, but when I play it back via coolservice.dk upload / download web site, I get no sound. But it plays (mono) OK on PC. What gives?

The bitrate needs to be no more than 24k and the clip shouldnt exceed 20 secs.

What are you converting it with?

The quality needs to be 24000hz and the file no bigger than 200 kb

The files DON'T have to be mono, they just sound better that way. They CAN be more than 20 seconds, and more than 200 KB. The ringtones i make are 32000hz, 112bit, 30 second clips and they sound fine

They will until you get into different algorythms as well as different devices.

Audacity does not have an option for 24000. Only 8000, 32000, 48000 and the like in the "Quality" tab. Not sure what you mean?

You can use 32000. If you are using 32000 try to keep the file size below 200k. You may have to reduce the length of the clip to achieve this.

If you still arent getting sound when downloading the clip from the site, it could be a MIME setting on the server. The server has to know how to process the audio to the phone.

I understand, I know you're working hard on the site and it's a good feeling when people visit what you've created. It's just that I had been reading a lot of posts lately and it seemed like every time I saw one from you, you weren't actually answering the poster's question but just said the same thing about your web site. Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool what you're trying to do with the web site, but if you're going to post you really do need to address the issue at hand, not just advertise (whether it's a for-profit site or not). By definition, making a post that just advertises another site, and that doesn't discuss the topic at hand, is spam. I wasn't trying to offend you. I'm just trying to make sure other forum members here get the help they're looking for.

hoopitz, have you had any luck getting your ringers to download? What happens when you visit the URL on your computer rather than the BlackBerry? Are there any spaces or strange characters anywhere in the URL? Maybe you can tell us what the URL is so we can check it and maybe help more.

OK, seems to be some confusion here (maybe on my part). What I'm attempting to gather is how to create and download MP3 ringtones to my bb. I am not promoting any url's or web sites. So what has been found or recommended by this forum to work RIM 8700c BES BlackBerry with Cingular Blue's service plan? I am using Audacity to compose MP3's:

> K in bit rate
> Stero or Mono
> File Size (~<200KB)
> Playing time (~15 sec)?

Just because people don't post on this site, does not mean that they are not helping them through private messages and direct e-mail.

You might want to take that into consideration before judging what someone is doing!





For the best settings this is what I have come up with.

Between 24-32 Hz in quality
between 48-64 K in bit rate
Should be Mono so there are no aalgorythm problems Stereo or Mono
Should be below 200 if possible File Size (~<200KB) Some processors glitch when above 200 du to buffer underuns
Should be 20 secs or less Playing time (~15 sec)? due to same problem stated above.

The server you are attempting to download the file from MUST have the correct MIME settings for the phone to process the .MP3 correctly.

hm, i made a ringtone at 96kbps and sampled at 48kHz that is 30 secs long and uploaded it to my bb using "mobileup.org" it sounds great...(i own a 7130e). however, the only thing i'm annoyed about is the fact that i can't seem to figure out how to change the name of the file i uploaded via mobileup.org. anyone know how to do this?

i don't know why everyone keeps saying to keep files under 200kb and 15 secs and such low quality. the problem i have is hearing my phone, so i want the ringer to be LOUD. is there some way i can do this? thanks!

as long as you have a few files on your phone, you will be fine with the larger size. When you start adding more and more the file size will start taxing the phones processor, then you will start having problems.

Does mobileup rename the file??
