8800 or iPhone? Is the title of this thread.

8800 = RIM's proven track record of reliability & functionality, no smoke and mirrors.

Now that the smoke has cleared and the mirrors have been removed from the carnival tent, ask youself if this is the device you really want to replace your trusty BlackBerry?

In all seriousness, Blackberry doesn't deserve your defensive melodrama. It stands well enough on its own.

Exclamation Anyone for some actual news?

There's LOTS of iPhone™ news this week that I'm not seeing mentioned too much in this thread, so I'd like to touch on that stuff now.

Phone Scoop has put up their report about the iPhone™, and they have very interesting info to share, including this paragraph:
Quote:

However the industry will argue over whether the iPhone™ is truly a smartphone since users won't be able to load third party applications onto it. Developers who spoke to Apple said a development platform for the phone is about two years away. Many are hoping that the ability to create widgets for the phone might be available sooner.
Very interesting, wouldn't you agree?

Also, the biggest iPhone™-related story of the week is the fact that Apple has been SUED by Cisco for infringing on THEIR copyright/trademark for the iPhone™ name!

Here's some links where you can read more about it:
-Cisco sues Apple for trademark infringement: ruh roh!
-Apple says Cisco lawsuit is "silly"

So, bottom line, Apple is so arrogant and full of themselves, they think they can get away with stealing the name of a product that's been available for several years! Ooh, I can't WAIT for a judge to lay the smackdown on Steve Jobs and company for this one!

BTW, Cisco has owned the copyright/trademark in question since 2000, but that's because in 2000, they bought the company that originally filed for the ©/™. The ©/™ would actually have been ISSUED before 2000, although I don't yet know the date that it was issued. So, it's not like someone secured that protection recently, once it was known that Apple was developing this product. The existing product of the same name pre-dates Apple's product by several years. Open & shut case, if you ask me!

It's a consumer model no keyboard no pim calender runs tha same ol appl propitary garbage.$600 for that you could buy a decent treo wich by the way is a big wardriver target. Nokias can get hacked to because they run symbian. If this becomes common place to expect the Iphone to be a wardriver target as well. $600 for that device will put it out of average consumer price range. Also the memory is not upgradable? Pass at least rim is making the ram upgradable now $600 efectivly pices it out of the consumer market cinular will prbaly have to dop so frankins if they expect there CSR's to sell it for that price.

The avrage consumer is not going to pay more than 300 for a phone like that they would sooner buy a treo.Bill gates has more marketing sense then that. I hope dvd john cracks this device too ( he alredy cracked the dvd encyption the itunes code aand the ipod software) I'm sticking with the crack berry. For thos who jump ship an get stucuk with buggy devices we are entitled to mock you. Lol

For Apple's sake, I hope they have a better keyboard than the one you're working on.

Typing with an index finger on one hand sure sounds speedy.

And practical.

Well, if it's anything like what's been floating around on tablet pc's the last two years, it's going to be a horrific experience.

Wow-- at first i thought this was just stubborn BB users angry that a better product may be on the horizon and stubborn to see things objectively. But it turns out it people that hate the product just because they have a grudge against a company that is trying to innovate and change things.

How do you know its buggy? I guess the "crash three times daily" Windows Mobile is your idea of stability and innovation... and security. And the ancient Palm design which hasnt changed much in years, aside from adding a few little features. The IPhone isnt about features, its about usability AND features.

All the speculators can say what they wish, my bet is that people will truly vote with thier wallets, and the iPhone will be a big hit. Time will tell though.

For the uninitiated mind, like me, I would like to know exactly what is innovative about the iPhone? What sets this device apart from myriad of multimedia phones/PDAs available in market today? This is humble question and I am not meaning to slight the Apple camp here; just trying to understand what is known about the device.

It does have a PIM function--this is a scaled down version of MacOSX which means it has iCal---as for the price issue...People are plunking down over 600.00 for things like HTC phone and iMate phones--so that is really a mute point.

So what about this:

LG KE850 Sports a Touchscreen Interface - Gizmodo

Seems this made headway before the "innovative" ipod. Notice this was released before the iphone announcement.

Like I said in my earlier post Apple didn't do anything new, except put a MAC on the phone. Once this comes out in June, I'm sure there will be at least 2 more coming out right behind hit, and they will probably have more functions.

Sorry but holding with one hand while a single index finger does the typing will be a far cry from what Blackberry has to offer. I get and answer 60-70 emails a day in the field and I can't see doing this on the iPhone. Blackberry's push email is a given.

From what I see the iPhone wins on sheer "glitz", but glitz does not make it better than the Blackberry. I will most likely buy one and p[lay for a while and sell it on eBay when I get bored with it, maybe a week.
