I just ordered by 8700 and should get it Monday. I currently use Ramble but am looking to use either verichat or web messenger. Has anyone tested these or other IM apps on the 8700? Any problems? any that work better then the others?

yahoo IM DOES NOT WORK WITH cingular. works fine with Rogers

yak-on! works great for me with both AIM or MSN with cingular. Does drain the battery a bit if you stay logged on all day. Well worth $20.

Did you try to download with the browser on your BB at http://www.yak-on.com/download/ ? They have instructions that state you need to download the preferences file first, then download the Yak-On app... did you follow these directions?

I have the same problem. I downloaded correctly & constantly get a "can't logon onton AIM/MSN after 3 tries". Yes I did dl the prefs first -

For Cingular:

Go to Advanced Options, TCP,

APN: wap.cingular
Username for APN: [email address]

(all caps)
Password for APN: CINGULAR1 (all caps)

Then to Security Options, TLS, and change TLS Default to "Handheld"

Then go to sign in and follow the prompts...

I had issues with the TLS "handheld" setting (as the instructions recommend) but it works great for me with the default "Proxy" setting.

i like verichat a lot, it has everything to me, check that one out, i tried ramble and although it seems everybody is impressed with it i prefer and like verichat way better, but then again it is freeware and verichat is subscription so that could be a deciding factor for some i suppose as well as what they use for IM (ie: aim/icq/yahoo!/msn etc), right now i'm trying out the trial, but i like the whole set up of verichat not to mention the nice icons that go along with the IM clients unlike other IM messengers with green icons, which aren't dirctly synonymous to the original desktop version of the IM client/application and some have none at all and just list the names...haven't tried yak-on yet, that will probably be my next attempt along with others mentioned, but i like the fact that it's "multi" because i use yahoo the most, aim and msn so it gives you a lot of different options and you are not stuck to one messenger or if you are talking to someone and they have a messenger you don't have...you can easily get around that due to the "multi" options, again you aren't limited, but at any rate it doesn't hurt to check them all out, trial and error, eventually you'll come to a conclusion that best fits your needs/wants...oh yeah and no problesm whatsoever (at least so far)

I use verichat and like it very much. Interface is great and it I like having msn, yahoo and aim all in one. I would highly recommend that you look into this. Plus, their tech support is incredible, they respond to my emails within minutesn even at 2 am (support 24/7)!

Is the blackberry ever going to feature a true AIM cliet, I know on tmobile they have it, but when not release a version for my 7100i? I just don't know, I like the sidekick alot and almost got that, but the blackberry is just much more appealing, one more question, is there a way to configure the browswer to work like the sidekick? Like when I go to ESPN.COM on my BB they page is all messed up, I just don't know how to configure it.

I had tmobile and can honestly say, Verichat is better than the "true" AIM client that was on my 7100t. Verichat is hands down the best that I have used.

I have no idea regarding the website, mine is all messed up too. I'm still confused as t why i have three browsers.

verichat has aim/yahoo/msn/icq i believe and yak-on has only msn/aim and verichat is a yearly subscription yak-on is one-time pay if i'm not mistaken etc

i agree, verichat is the one that shines compared to the rest, i mean the whole ui is just like the desktop version and i like the fact that you can use it like your on your desktop computer, you have your status messages, you can be invisible, put up away signs etc now if only it could show pictures like it does on the desktop, or customize your font etc, but i'm willing to bet that won't happen for a long time or at all

Curious to hear comments from other members on IM+. I have it installed on my 8700c and all three AIM, Y! and MSN work on it - it atleast seems to login to all three and show me my buddy list from all three. I have successfully chatted on AIM and Y!.

I am a Yak-On user. But the prior 12 months I used verichat and liked it a great deal. It worked very well for me, but I wasn't a big fan of the subscription fee every year and looked for a single purchase alternative, enter Yak-On.

But, prior to officially going to Yak-On, I tried IM+ for the trial period as it also is a single purchase. Generally I liked it, but it seemed to make me go through an extra screen or two to do anything. This was to exit without closing down and to close down completely and for getting started. I am not sure what that was all about or if there was a setting to get around this. I looked for it, but couldn't find it and that alone was enough to bug me out of using it. Although, if Yak-On wouldn't have come along, I think I would have bit the bullet and gone with IM+ anyways. Seems to give you everything verichat does, but you only pay for it once.

I used im+ on a 7100g & 8700c and using the wap version it wpold drop service and display an error message a bit too much. It would display more errors on the 8700. On the 7100 not so much. So far now testing the yak on it hasn't dropped yet. I hated going to send an IM only to see I haven't been connected for who knows how long.
