Default Blackberry Apps

You will be best served using the Blackberry (internal) applications for PIM features (email, calendar, to-do, address book, etc.). As for 3rd party, the following should be pretty much be standard issue:

#1 - Google Maps for Blackberry - Google Maps
#2 - Opera Mini - http://www.operamini.com/download/
#3 - If you're a google fanboy, Gmail & Gtalk for Blackberry - Google Mobile and http://blackberry.com/googletalk

Welcome to the group, darwins!

If you haven't obtained or received the blackberry yet, let me advise that blackberry's are different. Different in a good way, in my opinion; but it depends on what you need. The blackberry has native PIM apps as well as available aftermarket products. But I expect it is different from what you think of and maybe you are used to when you say PDA.

Also, in case no one else has. Let me recommend http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Main_Page and http://home.comcast.net/~tamsterra/index.html. At the faq is a list of links to aftermarket software sources.

Pay as you go? So you don't have a blackberry data plan?

See the faq link in my past above. Look for the articles on upgrading the operating system (OS) and the article on download links for desktop manager. Also look for the general faq article on your model blackberry.

Data plan (BES or BIS) privides ability to send receive data such as internet browser, email, etc. Again, see the faq. There is an extensive glossary there, as well.

The OS is downloaded to a PC from a carrier, yours or another, provided the OS is for your model blackberry. Instructions are at the faq, for the details.
