As the heading says this is a question about using one BES across multiple sites.

We are a Domino setup with satelite servers in remote offices and have currently got a BES on test here in the main office for three users whose mail resides on the main Domino server.

I can forsee that when the test expires and we go live that users in our remote offices whose mail is delivered direct to the remote Domino server are going to want to use BlackBerries.

The question is a very simple one, can i use the BES i have for the remote users? BES is in Belfast and the two biggest potential request sources are Paris and Munich. Pings between here and there are typically of the 60-80ms. All users are in a single PAB.

As far as i can tell the answer is a yes, i can do what i want. Just wanted to ask those who are much better versed before i tell those above that it can/can't be done.

From a network perspective it'll work (we do it). Mail servers in 1 location and BES' in others ... I don't know squat about Domino so one of the resident Domino wizards will have to let you know about address book / domain configuration.

RIM's recommendation is that the BES to be located as close to the mail servers as possible - for the obvious performance reasons. If your BES is polling for new messages on remote mail servers over the WAN, expect the slowness/delay in message delivery.

Hi, noname, thanks for that, i take it that things will still work, just not quite a quickly for those users on remote sites?

I have to say that so far the level and speed of response on this forum is not much short of astonishing.

From a network perspective it will work but it depends on how many users will be supporting at the remote office and the pipe.

Our BES is in New York and we support a mail server in Tokyo and one in London over VPN. These sites only have about 5 BlackBerry each.

We have that kind of setup here
4 bes servers and +100 different mailservers in different locations on a WAN.
Everything working fine
