Default change email address

Newer Admin here... I have a user that is going overseas, and doesn't want work related email on his 8820 during that time. However he does want the capability to receive an emergency email if the need arises...

Q1: Can create a new exchange mailbox for him and change the email address for his user on the bes? And then upon finishing his trip, can I then change his user account on the bes back to the original email address?

Q2: What are the ramifications of doing this? (am I going to screw up his account, or the bes in the process), What trouble might I run into?

Q3: Has anyone done this before, what are my other options?

BES 4.1.3.16, MSDE, 8820 HH, Ex2003

Rather than doing all of this you can simply disable message redirection. You can simply right-click on the user and select "Disable Redirection" and no mail will get directed to the HH until you re-enable this.

then if he needs to receive an emergency email or doc (he's a lawyer), I'd have to turn it on and he would get all past (missing) email, including the emergency one... correct?

Ok, however in answer to my original questions, would they work? or what would it screw up if I did so?

You should be able to do that. I had to do that when a user got married and her last name changed. However, hdawg's idea is alot easier. If you would do it your way you would have to activate the device each time.

"You can just set up a filter rule in the blackberry.."

Poking around a bit, it looks like I can setup a filter that will hold ALL mail, except mail coming from a certain email address (his secretary)... Am I reading this correct? So all his email will not download to the HH, only that from his secretary and when he comes back, I just delete the rule and it all comes back normal??? (Will he be missing the past email that was on hold, or will all of it download too)???

Yes exactly. You can set the filter to forward only messages from 1 e-mail address. The other mails will be filtered and if you deactivate the filter, they will never be transfered to the unit.

You can add the filter from BES manager or directly from the bb unit.

I've created a filter rule for this user and enabled it, and resent the IT Policy, however he is still receiving my emails (he should be just receiving from his secretary only) What am I missing?

Rule:
Enable=True
From=[sec email address]
Action=Hold

There's another setting you gotta change..

In the filters : default action "forward messages to bes in no filter rules apply" you gotta set it to "False"
