Default Connection Documents for BES to Mail Servers

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone shed some light on this. It was suggested to me recently that we should have a connection document from the BES servers to all mail servers.

We have a distributed environment which means I would have approx 60 connection documents for each BES. I really don't want that added complexity to my environment, however if this is necessary then I will have to review.

Thoughts? Benefits etc?

Thanks

you mean you have to document all connections that BES makes?

You're going to get a half-assed answer from me on this one, because I haven't worked in a Domino environment in a few years. Last one for me was BES 4.1 with Domino 6.x.

That said, we used to add connection documents for everything. Just seemed to make everything work better. Domino had no trouble finding BES and vice versa. It was probably overkill to add as many connection docs as we did, but once it was done, it was done.

I used to have a few decent KB articles on hand for stuff like this. I'll try to dig them up.
Hopefully they've been rev'd for newer versions of Domino.

Thanks for the responses. I had a look around for documentation about this for a while yesterday but could not find any reference. If you have anything tucked away, it will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Agree with Penguin...we have a distributed environment as well. Our USA BES hits Domino mail servers throughout Asia, plus South Africa and Latin America. We have a connection document for each.

This works fine for perhaps a few dozen users, depending on the speed of the links. (Our typical remote mail server has more like a dozen BB users on it.) With EMEA and over 200 users, we ended up standing up a BES in the data center there as their performance was poor when using the USA BES.

I guess you need a connection doc or a DNS entry with an alias..
The bes server gotta find the mail servers so if a trace servername/server work, no need for a connection doc.

Fyi, i have 265 mail servers connections on each BES (7) and no problem here
