b18 is multilingual, you can just pull b17 from blackberry.com and it is much smaller files - I read the release notes and it is not clear if there were any changes since b14 from TMO.

My biggest complaint is all the hour glassing when going into apps at times. If this fixes it I will be very happy.

Only fix I have noticed is what other have already posted in regards to the speed. My Pearl seems uber quick now but other than that I haven't noticed anything different.

Does the Blackberry.alx file also need to be deleted? If so, which file can be used to replace it?

b17 and b18 is still 4.2.0.10. The 4.2.0.14 is newer than the version on blackberry.com

Of course 14 is lower than 18. I should have known that.

The .79 release does not repair or return to use:

Autodim or not issue
Double function on the left hand convenience key
Trackball nutso after zooming in the browser

I don't know what this release does. Hell, even Bill Gates lets you know whats in Mickysoft releases and updates every so often.

Dont' delete the blackberry.alx file unless you are trying to get themes and you know what you are doing. Read Jibi's thread about unlocking themes. Lots of good info there.

I just want to use the built-in T-Mobile Zen theme so it sounds like I don't need to touch this file. Is that correct?

You will probably need a modified blackberry.alx file for that...I haven't installed the new OS yet so I don't know what's included. I'm guessing that the TMobile Zen theme won't install without a little tweaking of the blackberry.alx file. The themes that aren't carrier specific and Telefonica's themes will install automatically.

Is the file located in this thread the one to use? http://www.blackberryforums.com/ring...-4-2-only.html

I haven't used Jibi's posted .alx files. I usually just edit the .alx file myself but I'm guessing they will still work with .79. Give it a while and I'm sure Jibi will browse through here and verify for you. Or just try it. I recommend installing as is before you change the blackberry.alx file. That's what I usually do.

I guess if you can change the blackberry.alx file after you have installed the update then I'll leave it alone for now. Thanks for the help.
