I got a 64 gig Playbook a few days ago from Amazon. I'm not sure I would have bought it if the price was still high. Now that I have it I'm surprised at how good it is.

I have an Ipad 2 and a couple of other tablets. I never found one that just felt right. They're all okay but the Playbook has some nice advantages for my use, which is primarily as a video player and web browser and occasionally for games. It has a better screen than the Ipad and it has far better speakers. These are the best speakers I've seen on a tablet. Nothing else is even close.

The user interface just makes sense. Most things are right there when I need them. There are maybe too many gestures and strokes to remember easily but most of them aren't really needed that often so it's not a problem.

So far it's played every video I've put in it. That surprised me. I thought I had read that it's codecs were limited and I really bought it with the idea that when OS 2.0 comes along I'll probably be able to get one of the good Android players. But now I'm not sure I'll want one. This player is just fine.

I quickly found an ebook reader for it called Book Reader that reads both mobi and epub files, which is what I have. I generally read on a Kindle but this summer on warm evenings this will be perfect for reading on the porch in the dark. That's a nice program, by the way. A good selection of features all arranged where they stay out of the way till you need them.

It doesn't matter much that there aren't a lot of apps for it as long as there are enough good apps and so far I've found that there are.

I doubt I'm ready to throw away my other tablets yet, but I think I've found the one I like now.

I'm quite impressed by the playbook. As others say all videos on it sure playing fine whereas on my iPad I have to convert or use a different app to play different formats.

I'm looking forward to v2, please hurry up BB! for better selection of apps.

I also bought that book reader app for mobi and epub files. Only thing is it's a bit clunky to put on books.

I own an Asus Transformer, work extensively with an I-pad2 at work and have owned the Blackpad for about three months. The Asus is a promise of what Android might become one day. The I-pad is a very limited toy. The Blackpad blows them all out of the water. From the slick OS to the form factor, the Blackpad is clearly superior. And the update will only make it better.

It's a product made by the same people that make the iTouch and the Blackpad. I think they also make the MAC computer. Don't confuse them with The BlackBerry Company or that other company known as RIMM, however.

I bought a "first gen" one back at initial launch, but quickly sold it after recognizing its significant deficiencies.

Bought a "2nd gen" one 2 days ago (new on/off button). Updated the OS. Returned it the next day.

Done.

"BLACKPAD" was the in-house name for the PlayBook while in development. RIM decided to give it that other dreadful name.

Who cares? It's not called a BLACKPAD, Blackpad, blackpad or any other variation thereof, so get over it and call it a PlayBook.

All devices carry a "code" name in the development process because they need to call it something. The real name though needs to be unencumbered by trademark etc., avoid unfortunate double meanings in world markets, etc.
