I know several woman that have had 8700's moved to a curve and went back to the 8700 for no other reason than its easier to type on when they have longer nails.

I loved the 8700 keyboard, but the Curve size, trackball and media (expandable memory) features make it a clear cut winner for me. Oh ya, and I am a man with short nails.

Yes, I still use the "old" 8700 (haven't upgraded the software, either, b/c I hate 4.2), but I'm still a teenager and Blackberries are rare amongst them. :3

I am a newbie who just got a used 8703e VZW and upgraded to 4.2. What am I getting on 4.2 that was not on the phone before?

You sound like someone who has no idea the BB is a business tool, not a gamers play thing.

It's a little pricey so you may want to shop around but they are out there!

I must agree with most of the posters here, the 8700g is a VERY solid device.

I manage two BES's now, one of them has 5 8700's on it now (including mine), two 8800's, two Curve's and the rest are 72xx's and 6280's. Initially, the one early adopter didn't like the 8700 keyboard compared to his 7290, but he's used to it now. The other has a few 72xx devices on it.

As far as durability, I echo the sentiments of those above who talked about it being a reliable workhorse. I have had ZERO dead 8700's. ZERO. I have had a host of the 7xxx and 6xxx series BB's die though, I've replaced one as recently as last week. The 8700 is also a far more capable device, especially with 4.2 on it, compared to the earlier models.

My next device will probably be the Curve when I'm eligible for my upgrade and my wife will probably end up with this one.

For the person who is critiquing the interface and 3rd party app support: News flash, this isn't Windows. The BB was originally a business communication device, and that is still is primary area of focus. It's "antiquated" UI is efficient and intuitive, and these devices just plain WORK. When the device is used for it's intended purpose, and not just some flashy gadget that happens to do e-mail quite well, there is no real need for 3rd party apps, games and other tripe that would clutter it's simplistic interface and potentially hinder the user's proficient efficiency with the device.

In a nutshell: If you don't understand or appreciate the functionality that a Blackberry provides, my guess is you don't actually need one.

Not to mention that the price of getting an 8700 still range from $50 to $350 (usually in immaculate condition, but there are the scammers)...

I got mine for $150 flat today.

Switched back to my trusty 8700g after my 8800 fell apart (bad charger slot, screwed up trackball and many other annoying issues). I dug the 8700g out o fmy desk, dusted her off, plugged in, upgraded and installed my apps, was up and going in less than 30 minutes...but my damn thumb hurts again otherwise, 8700 is the most dependable BB out ther IMHO

After 3 months on the 8800, I switched back to my 8700c. Better keyboard by far.

I'm a former Sidekick LX user and I switch from that to the Curve not once, but twice and couldn't get with the Curve becuz of the keypad and felt it was fragile. I picked up an 8700G Tuesday from a seller on craigslist for $100 and I absolutely love it. I sold my Sidekick LX after using this BB for a couple of hours.

I have both a 8800 and a 8700. I really like the keyboard of the 8700, but I really hate the toggle wheel on the 8700. I can navigate 1000 times faster with the trackball.


If they had a device with the trackball and the 8700 keyboard. Life would be good.

My niece has a pearl, and I wouldn't trade her if you paid me. I like the crisp clear screen on my 8700. It's great for these old eyes to read. My last Bberry was a 6710 (and yes, it still works, so I keep it as a backup) and there is no comparison. At work, they shipped "the new guy" a Pearl, and my boss took one look at it, and said send it back. He now has an 8703, and loves it. This is his first experience with a Blackberry, and I think he is hooked!

I won't give up my 8703e until BB sports a comparable model that has full keyboard and supports xm radio. Until then I love my 03. BTW it is NOT the newest model Alltel supports, you can buy the new 8800 series, I just don't know why you would.

Still going strong with my 8700 on TMo. Like the previous post, great battery life and it gets the job done, is compact and stable
