Newbie her so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. Just got my 8700c today. I had a 7290 that was running on OS 3.6. Can I upgrade to OS 4.1 by just installing CD that came with 8700? Will it automatically just upgrade without messing up anything on the Desktop Manager that I had.

Your 8700 comes with 4.1 on the handheld - it doesn;t run on 3.6. Am I missing something? You have an OS already on your 8700, what does 3.6 on your 7290 have to do with the new unit at all?

Go to the button at the top of the page labeled BlackBerry FAQs and in there look for OS upgrades. Look for the appropriate 4.1 os for the 7290, do not use the one for the 8700 because it shoud not work. Once you install the new one remove the vendor file from the c: drive. Connect the 7290, launch desktop manager and it should prompt you to upgrade it. BE PATIENT it will take about 30 to 40 miniyes, do not disconnect it until it reboots.

I said it wrong. My destop manager on my computer that I use to sync to my 8700 is version 3.6. Does the cd that came with my 8700 a higher version? Didn't want to install this and it would mess up my current destop manager.

yes, the cd that comes with the 8700 has the most current version of desktop manager. If your going to use both, install seperatly, although i am not sure why you would, otherwise uninstall 3.x or just update. eEither way will work ok...
