For the record, not sure what OS version opened this up, but 4.5.0 allows you to set the Device Memory limit to 5mb, and the Reserved Picture memory to 0mb.

Could have sworn 4.2.2 has only 15, and 12mb. Could be wrong, its been known to happen more than once.

Might have been. Mine is set to 5MB and I don't remember changing it to that.

I have done all of the steps to free up memory, I have a memory card with all of my media on it, and I still only have 8 MB of memory. What else could be taking up so much memory and how do I clear it out?? Please help!

I called Bell Mobility tech support yesterday and they advised me that this is the "memory leak issue" that is plaguing a lot of Blackberry Pearl models and a small number of 8830 models. They claim it is a BB programming issue, and said that RIM is looking into a solution but do not know when a fix will be available....

In the meantime, I just have to remember to pull out the battery to reste it on a daily basis. Pretty lame to have to do this on a brand new device...

strugs... Bell Mobility is goofy. The memory leak issue affects ANY BB running OS 4.2+, any model.

@flower40 -- You would need to look at your third party applications and database sizes to determine what is left to do. Look at Options > Status > Menu > Database Sizes and see what is there... what are the three largest KB sizes listed, the number after the "/"?

Strange, mind just deleted the call logs and I have over 25 megs free on my phone. All MMS and SMS are still there though.

As far as memory goes, I would be carefull about anything less than 15Mb. Just do a battery pull once a week and you should be fine.
This metric is very helpful. I went "application crazy" with my curve and started experiencing this problem, but I didn't know how much to free up.

7.5 free. 7.5 to go!

Thanks!

Remember that regularly pulling the battery will help recover lost memory. I do at least one a week.
