Verizon has only released one upgrade since launching the Storm. Some of the beta OS releases have improved the device but Verizon hasn't released an official upgrade.

There are no "official" hardware changes. There may be internal things they have changed and haven't told people about.

mrfizzed,

unless you are willing to load a beta OS, nothing much has changed.

I am runnning beta OS .103 and waiting for the next full beta (avoiding the hybrids). I am pretty thrilled with my Storm and I have performed NONE of the so-called physical fixes.

It's really a shame RIM has not done at-least another official OS release. I think .90 and up are very stable.

"RIM" has released lots of new OS's to the carriers. You can blame Verizon for not releasing them to the public, not RIM.

There are no "hybrids" unless you create them yourself by mixing portions of the different OS's.

John Clark,

From what I understand, OS .106 and .109 are "hybrid" versions of .103.

I understand there is a beta .121 but I don't know if it's available for the 9530.

Well, I'm about to give up on my Storm. I have been a loyal BB user since my 950 back in 1999 and have had just about every model in between.

It is highly unstable and buggy. There are two in our company so far (and there will be no more for now) and they both have the same symptoms running .75. Tried .90 for a little while and it was better in certain areas but very buggy in others.

Thumbs down. We are hoping the Niagara comes out soon and will likely go back to the Curve to wait it out.

Wirelessly posted

I have had my Storm since new years day and have taken it back to vodafone once. It is running .78 and I love it! That said, I would say that unless you are set on having a Storm you would be better off with an older, tried and tested BB until the Storm has been perfected.

I've been running the .99 Beta for a couple weeks with the bRoid theme and other then a few quirks and still lingering phone to home screen switching issues it's way better then .65 and the official .75

Unless you want to tamper with these "unofficial" OS builds I would wait for the next Verizon release which is rumored to be in March. Verizon is notorious for talking forever with their builds but based on improvements since .75 it should be a rock solid device.

Now if your issues were more about you didn't like typing on it or the lack of wifi a robust app store etc ..there are those issues but I'm not giving my back just yet and I have a Bold sitting in the drawer anytime I want to switch. Every week more Storm versions of apps are coming out and the potential of what the device is still exciting.

For now it's meeting my needs and I accept it as a work in progress but it's been a worthwhile ride so far.

If you want to actually type something, it's still a piece of crap. If you want something that doesn't seize, lag, or reboot when you plug in the earplugs or lock or unlock the device, it's still a piece of crap. If you want something that lasts more than 8 hours on a charge, it's still a piece of crap.

I'm sorry but you are not going to find a new 3G capable device that will last more then a typical work day with moderate usage all day.

After tweaking all my Storm settings I can last from 6am until 8pm with normal use.

That's funny. I haven't had any of the issue you are complaining about. My device will last me about 16 hours without charging during the week(heavy email usage and a few calls) and will last all weekend using only 2 bars if I decide not to use it at all, and just let the email messages come in(usually a couple hundred messages over a 2 day period).

I wouldn't call the device a piece of crap, yes there are some bugs in the OS which is why there are so many people playing with the Beta OSes out there. I'm on .103 and am loving it. I did almost ditch it after I got it with the .65 OS, but I have been working with RIM for too long to not wait for them to release a new OS on a brand new device. Just wait until Verizon does release a new version of the OS it will be rock solid.
