Cool Can I get Email by wifi?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi.

I'm absolutely new here, and am trying to figure out how to use my new (to me) Blackberry Bold 9900.

I'm on Telus, have not turned on a data plan, and wonder if I can set up email via wifi only? I have wifi at home, at work, etc, and see no reason to spend money with Telus for data I already have at home.

Thanks for your help, Bob.

The link below is the full manual for your phone and unless Telus blocks WIFI without a data plan this may help.

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/b...ListHelperImpl

If your unsure of how to set up WIFI this may help.

Check which wireless networks your smartphone connects to
The types of networks listed do not reflect network connections, only the ability of your BlackBerry smartphone model to connect to those networks. For more information about the wireless networks that your smartphone connects to, see the Safety and Product Information booklet for your smartphone.1.On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.2.Click Device > About Device Versions. The types of networks your smartphone can connect to are listed in the brackets after your smartphone model.Turn on, turn off, or check the status of a network connection
You should keep network connections turned off in certain places, such as on an airplane or in a hospital. For more information, see the Safety and Product Information booklet for your BlackBerry smartphone.On the home screen, click the connections area at the top of the screen, or click the Manage Connections icon.;
To turn on a network connection, select the checkbox beside a connection type.;
To turn off a network connection, clear the checkbox beside a connection type.;
To turn on the network connections that were turned on previously, click Restore Connections.;
To check the status of a network connection, click Service Status.

I actually have wifi working, at least at home.

What I don't see is any reference in the BB to email, although there is one to Blackberry Messenger.

Thanks for the Link. Is this substantially the same as the one for the Bold 9900?

Thanks, Bob

I've just been talking to the Telus tech. He says I can't get any email unless I have a data plan, but once i have one I can get email. I don't understand this because I don't want access to Telus or Blackberry email servers, but that's what they tell me.

With the older BlackBerrys (pre BB 10) you have to have a BlackBerry Data Plan (not just an ordinary data plan) to get e-mail. With or without WiFi.

Having the legit BlackBerry data plan is what gets you the service books you need for email via WiFi. No other way to get those necessary service books so a BlackBerry data plan is a must.

With BB10 devices that all changed and a separate BlackBerry data plan is no longer needed. BB10 doesn't use the BIS service all earlier devices use. The new generation of devices only needs a regular data plan just like iPhones and Android phones use.
