The 8800 was junk. A good idea, brought to market half baked. It was so bad they had to take it off the market after 3 mths.

I dont think I would go that far. I still have mine and have had no problems except for the small keyboard.

the 8800 garbage, and pulled off the shelves cause of poor performance?

I really dunno about that. Matter of fact, the nearest coorporate stores have NEVER carried the 8800, no working displays, not even a dummy phone. Never.

Strange.

I'm upgrading from 8700 to 8800. Just ordered mine last week through my company. Should be here soon.

Not sure what all the issues have been, but it's available on TMO site now.

Love it. Haven't had a single problem with it. Embedded GPS rocks. Keys are nice. Lovin' the trackball. Two thumbs up.

The only issues I have with these blackberrys now is that the volume buttons are used exclusively for volume... I'd like if they had them functions as a scroll buttons when a volume button is not needed... I miss the trackwheel sometimes...

Default in stock?

Does anyone know? does t-mobile still carry the 8800 in stock? I think I have to take mine in for a mechanical malfunction.

The 8800 is back on T-Mobile's web site and shows available now. It was gone for a while, and conspiracy theories abound as to why, but it's back now and is the most expensive BB they list.

That is so weird. Why would they take it off the market only to put it back on? Bugs??

I think it was either a supply disruption from RIM (ramping up production of the 8820 and 8830) or T-Mobile wanted to push their new H@H WiFi service and thought it best to feature the 8320 and Pearl, omitting the 8800 during the lead in to H@H and initial rollout.

I wonder if the latter possible reason is ethical.

Default New Faceplate

Any truth to the rumor that RIM is giving out new faceplates for the 8800.

That, I have not heard. Mine is working flawlessly, and the quality of the build is the best of all the Blackberrys I've ever owned. It has the best feel in my hand of any I've used as well.

Pulling it off the line during the H@H rollout is certainly the prerogative of T-Mobile, and they could site numerous reasons why it would make sense. Like avoiding the confusion with consumers over which model works with WiFi. Yeah, it would be a lame reason and I wouldn't swallow it, but I've heard dumb corporate moves explained even more lamely before. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it unethical, but it's definitely a little on the fuggazey side.

Having quality control problems would certainly fit with it disappearing and reappearing later. Iron out the kinks in production. It would also fit that they'd want to keep something like that under their hat. I just think we'd have heard more griping about it in the 8800 forum. Still, it's a strong possibility.

I have had my BB8800 since August (07). Got it from TMO and I love it. My children went together and bought it for me for my early birthday present. I have not found anything wrong with it. It works great, really!
