help, gprs problem!
I am new BB user armed with an unlocked 7230 from T-Mobile.
I just arrived in Israel and tried to use the 7230 here. With my T-Mobile sim, the unit roams on the local Orange network. Everything works smoothly and the BB shows that I am on the orange network using GRPS. However, since T-Mobile charges 1.5 cents a KB for Data roaming, I want to use a local sim. When I put the local Orange sim into the 7230, I get message that "Data Connection Refused" and I notice that the BB shows that I am on the orange network using grps. When I try running the browser, I get the message "unable to connect to the selected mobile data service" I called Orange local customer service; they don't support Blackberry and don't know anything about settings. T-Mobile, of couse is not interested in helping someone not use their network. RIM sends me to T-Mobile. Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Even if I can't get mail pushed to my BB, at least I need WAP access.

Blackberry service is dependant on the provider having the ability to service a blackberry. I'm sure the blackberry servers are hidden behind a secure network that you the wireless company has to pay to have access to.
Without that, the blackberry can't see the servers.

What about using a MDS like Mailstreet that provides push email and a mobile data service for browsing? Would this solve my problem?

ita - you are missing a key part of the problem. The local Orange SIM card *MUST* have the BlackBerry Data Service enabled on it. BES, MDS, who cares - without the BlackBerry Data Service provisioned on the SIM card, you will never get past the "data connections refused" - gprs problem.

"As far as getting your email account set up to work overseas on a Blackberry, there is really nothing to do. As long as you have the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server), everything is really simple. Set up the handheld to the email account, and you are done."
This is wrong?

Suit yourself. Without a BlackBerry Data plan you are not going to get it to work

maybe it's just a matter of a wrong APN... I have had sims with straight up data plans, ie. not blackberry and I still could get GPRS... you only need a BB dataplan if you have to hit the RIM Relays for anything. So for POP mail and web usage, a BB data plan isn't required...
