I have recently purchased a used BB8700 Smartphone Edge. I am delighted with it and am slowly trying to learn its numerous features.

I would like to choose a different alert tune for my text messages. I have looked in the Media section but when I click on a tune suitable for text alerts I note that the menu only seems to have the option to use it as a ring tone - unless I am doing something wrong - which is highly likly

ALSO: Is there a way of catergorising texts messages into separate folders as on conventional mobiles, i.e. inbox, outbox, draft, deleted, etc? At the moment received/sent messages are shown on one page and can be a little confusing.

I have not got a User Manual for the phone but have been searching for a download on the internet. Details of my phone: Blackberry 8700 Smartphone (Edge). I initially downloaded a manual titled Blackberry 8700 Wireless Hand Held but then came across another: Blackberry 8700 Smartphone. I am assuming the latter is the correct one but am not certain?

Your assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.

Go into profiles and edit the tones from there. Categorization begins on OS 4.5 on the newer devices I believe.

Many thanks for such a prompt reply. I have clicked on Profiles and can only see the following items: Loud, Vibrate, Quiet, Normal, Phone only and off. How do I change the tones?

Have checked the phone OS details. They read as follows: U4.5.31 (Platform 2.70.55). Does that mean I cannot categorise my texts into folders?

You need to roll further down to the 'advanced' option in the menu and you can then edit all of your settings.

on home screen press f go to advanced ... you'll set ur rings for everything

BB 8700 User Guide. The 8700 series is basically the same device with only a few carrier quirks. Any User Guide shoudl provide good info.
