My ex-boyfriend bought me a BlackBerry Storm and put it under his name. He uses Verizon. Now that we broke up I'm wondering if he deactivates it if I will be able to sign up with another company and still get use out of the phone?
He says "I am in a 2 year contract and will need the phone in order to deactivate it. Also the phone is listed under my registration so it can't be used again."
Is this true?

Once he disconnects your service from his plan, as long as he doesn't report your handset as lost or stolen, you should be able to open an account with Verizon and activate your Storm. You will probably not be able to get the same phone number.

You may potentially complete an "assumption of liability" form with Verizon Wireless, and assume the contract and payments for this line of service. This would essentially get him out of it completely.
