Messages app用lease help me understand
Please Login to Remove!
I've just moved from a Treo 600 to a 7100t and I'm having trouble getting used to the Messages application, which lumps SMSs and emails (both received and sent) into a common inbox.
Questions:
1. Is there any way to view the list of emails and SMSs separately?
1a. For email, is it possible to *not* have sent messages displayed in the main screen?
2. Is there BB app that allows chat-style SMSing? Treo's built-in SMS application presented SMS messages like threaded chats, so I could just choose a user from the list to see all in/out SMSs presented like a chat. (BTW, I'm *not* talking about an IM type program葉he people I SMS with don't use IM.)
Thanks in advance for your advice, guys! I really appreciate it.

Dawg, thanks for the suggestion. I tried this and it does work to view SMSs and email separately, but it's arguably tedious to have to choose the menu and then scroll nearly down to the bottom to "View Folder," then choose the folder. This makes switching between folders a multi-click task.
Also, regardless of what folder I'm viewing when I exit Messages, when I open it again, it goes back to the default view-all mode.
Anyone else have advice on how to juggle sent/received emails and SMS messages? Does nobody else have a problem with the way the Messages app lumps everything together?

I agree
New to the BB world but I do find it a little cumbersome to see all sent and received emails and then have to select just my inbox.
Why can't I just set the default to my email inbox?????

Because there is no Inbox. There is a Messages folder - one folder for everything. Perhaps in the future RIM will change this.

I *know*! Why can't you at least choose which folder is default?
Another thing I noticed is that there's no distinction between a sent SMS icon and a sent email icon傭oth have identical checkmarks. As far as received messages, the only difference is that the opened envelope is slightly askew for SMSs. Why can't they at least be different colors? It's really easy to mix up. I'll probably end up sending replies via SMS instead of email and vice versa.
Come on, aren't there others out there who find the Messages app really annoying? It would be better if there were separate apps altogether for text messages and emails. Ideally, the SMS app would display messages as threads (like on the messaging app on the Treo).

Options / SMS - Turn "Delivery Reports" on; this will put a different mark next to sent SMS messages that have been received at thte other end.

And Alt I...
Alt I sends you to 'All Incoming' emails rather than your actual inbox. I purposely keep my desktop inbox small so that I only have a few to see on my BB.
Is there an Alt key for the inbox? This would be slightly better than scrolling and clicking the 'show folder' option.

1 = Open the message screen hit "Alt --> ? for the seperate SMS folder.
1a = I don't think so, you would have to mark them saved and then delete from your handheld "inbox".
2 = Don't know.....
BTW: I found this document to be helpful with quick navigation. I attached the 7100t link for you, but it appears to be the same as the 7100g.

Magnum, I don't see a link. Thanks for the Alt ->? tip, that's very helpful to see all SMS messages. (BTW, if you try to access this folder via the menu, there's no option for "SMS Messages" view, you can only choose SMS Inbox, SMS Outbox, or SMS SIM Card Inbox!)
Is there any shortcut to view only Emails?

I've just discovered you can set up your own searches. Doing this allowed me to set up an ALt-J shortcut that I set up for Julian's Inbox. In the search criteria I selected just the inbox folder and it works a treat.
So, now I just go into Messages and press Alt-J and success!

The links doesn't get highlighted, the link is attached to the word "this" in my previous post.
Just in case, here is the link again: http://www.blackberry.com/blackberry...7100t_tips.pdf , hopefully it will link up and if not just cut and paste.
EMails = Alt --> 9 from the "inbox".

OK, thanks for the link Magnum. That doc is quite helpful. I found out that actually Alt-9 is for MMS, but thanks to Julian's saved search tip I now can access only incoming emails with Alt-Z.

Am I the only one who likes the fact that all messages go to one place? I don't want to have to go to a bunch of different folders to see if I have a voicemail, or an SMS or an MMS or an email. And, unless I am mistaken, you will reply by the same method in which it came. So if you just hit reply to an SMS, it replies by SMS, not by email, right? I think RIM has done it right by putting everything in one place, although I think they should let you choose whether to show sent messages. That is annoying. You should also be able to have the choice to same sent messages at all.
