Default Carrier Change/Phone Change procedure?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

What's the best way to handle a carrier and phone change with BES. We are switchign carriers, so I am pretty sure thats a non-issue. Numbers will be ported but the phones are going from old 8703e's to Bold 9700's. Do I have to delete the users and re-add/activate, or can I just assign a new enterprise activation password and do it over the air and BES re-assigns the new device? If I have to delete the user, should I leave all BES info in the mailbox or get rid of it?

Thanks!

Just do an Ent Activation on the new berry and you're set.

You don't need to remove the user - just set the activation password as TargetIT says and activate the device.

One word of caution, since I've done this 8 million times - make sure the new device shows registered with the new network (you'll see a registration message in the Messages app), you see a Browser icon, and you can send/receive a PIN message.

I've run into many ports where the new carrier didn't put the correct BlackBerry data plan (or any data plan) on a new device, which cause the activation to fail.

Yeah, the carrier we are moving from does it religiously. In fact, when we signed up with them 2 years ago they managed to deliver all 25 devices to their new customer on BIS!! I didn't have a TSupport plan, it was friday at 5 pm. Guess how pissed I was?

Look at my signature for free way to check it.

Activation Readiness tool is a very nice tool and now is free for anyone that signs up

+2 for the activation readiness tool. Has come in quite handy when having to call carriers and they say the correct plan is on a line.
