Default 8700c vs. Motorola Q (RazrBerry)

Please Login to Remove!

I wanted to know what everyone thought about the new Motorola Q. It was supposed to be the infamous Blackberry Killer, however like usual it seems like Motorola only released it in Europe. I guess when RIM made the 8700c, motorola got scared. Anyway just wanted to know your thoughts. Here is some comparison pictures from engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000000051949/ if you have not seen it.

You can't kill a solution with a small part of a solution (like a device). The Q is just a device. You have to find several other pieces to put around it to even attempt to get close to what BlackBerry brings you and then when you have an issue you have a whole range of companies to call who can all blame each other. At least when I have an issue with BlackBerry I know who to call.

Until Motorola and others realise that, they are always going to lose the overall game.

Bunker.

The Q doesn't have EDGE? Maybe because the Q is for VERIZON with EV-DO Data speeds up to 1MB averaging around 500-700kbps...That craps all over EDGE. EDGE is cool but is a plebean data system compared to EV-DO which in itself isn't the best...There has not been a GSM Q announced, but I know it is in the works. Same deal with treo700 verizon will have first shot at it, Q should be out Jan-Feb. Keypad is backlit

Cingular was going to carry the Q until EDGE was dropped from it.

ceebz,
I think the point BG is making is that in an incarnation we *know* will exist (i.e. CDMA for Verizon), it'll have something much faster and better than EDGE.

Correct, but the GSM Q will be 3G (UTMS) So most likely by the time it is released for Cingular, they will have launched the UTMS network a little more widespread than it is now...

I understand that, but, for those of us not on a CDMA carrier, EV-DO doesn't mean diddly.

According to my sources within Cingular, the Q will not EVER be carried because of the lack of EDGE.

Also, my source said the device was quite disappointing, and never mentioned anything about UMTS support on the device. Are you sure the Q will have UMTS?

My source also said the Q will be carried by T-Mobile, for $899.

Your source is 100% wrong with regards to the UTMS. There are CDMA Engineering but no GSM models out. There are 95% more GSM networks in the world than CDMA (probably more) so in a marketing sense how would it benefit to make a CDMA version first if, 1. The device needs to be manufactured before GSM before a very large contract with a CDMA provider, and 2. They are not making a GSM version, and 3. They are having problems with the GSM version. Motorola waited so long on GSM version because they needed ot figure out where to place the 2nd camera (videoconferencing) for 3G, UTMS. The device by all means is not disappointing, have you seen one first hand?

As I said, my source never claimed the Q was without UMTS. I made an assumption because I don't recall him mentioning it.

As for him calling it a disappointment, the d-pad, screen visibility, and stability were all shortcomings, per my source. I have not seen one first hand, and don't really care to. My time spent with Motorola devices running Windows Mobile was enough to make me stray from them forever. And apparently, enough for Cingular, as well.

It has a trackwheel like a blackberry, back button like a blackberry and in many ways kicks the crap out of the 8700. If I didn't feel so comfortable with blackberry email and the PIN messaging I would be using a Q. I wouldn't judge the device before you use it, just because one of Michael Jacksons albums sucked does that mean that you will never buy another album by him again? (Bad comparison but you get the point...)

Just on the looks alone and ability to open and run 3rd party software, the Q is a valid option. If bb connect is reliable on the unti...I'm in, or at least I'll try and compare.
