We have 2 Curves in the house and I am thinking of going with the Bold. I have done some reading and see people are kind of bummed they cannot switch from 3G to EDGE (unless BB unlocked, etc. which I don't feel comfortable doing) thus making the battery life not so great. I also read some trouble overseas with Bold. As far as negatives that isn't too bad... anything else?

Also, do I have to set the Bold up from scratch - can I use the "Device Switch Wizard" from the Desktop Manager? I have done that repeatedly from Curve to new Curve but does it work from a backup of Curve to Bold?

Just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into here...

The Bold is a lot better than the 8300 series Curve and is well worth the move. I havent had any trouble with my Bold since getting it last september and the battery life is fine (not as good as the curve though).

For 3G alone, the Bold is the best. With a bluetooth headset, you can still surf the web, send email while your significant other is chatting away.

The downsides for me are battery life (still not terrible) and too wide a form factor but 3G trumps those every single day.

You might want to visit a retail store and get some "hands on" with the Bold. Ask questions, navigate with it, etc. Might help you make the choice that is best for you.

I've never had a Bold, but have heard mostly positive things. Having said that, I was very happy with my Curve for over a year as well.

It really comes down to personal preference, which is why getting a chance to play with a Bold is very useful.

I had a Curve for about a year, then I switched to a Bold. The Bold is much bigger than the Curve, so your first "touch" will be a bit awkward as you would have been use to a smaller device. The Bold has more memory system memory than the Curve and in my experience processed much much faster than the Curve in everything.

The screen on the Bold is much better (and bigger) than the Curve. I think the keyboard is also much better than the Curve, and the keys feel better to me. The interface of the Bold will be different from the Curve as by default they have placed some applications in folders on the main screen.

The Bold comes standard with WiFi, GPS, and of course is 3G, where as with the Curve, depending on which one you have you will be out one of those options and none of the Curves are 3G. Camera and audio are great too. And the ability to change your media card without having to pull the battery.

Hmmm, what else, oh. IT'S AWESOME!!!! Get it

Sounds like people are real happy which is good to hear...

I was able to see and hold the Bold from a nice lady at the car wash which is how this started. I saw hers and thought it looked neat and she was kind enough to let me screw around a bit with it...

Now I just need to know if you can go into a backup of a Curve and load applications and data from that backup onto a Bold. I think that "Device Switch Wizard" off Device Manager would work but don't know for sure. Setting up a Bold from Scratch would be a lot of work - I have a lot of Bookmarks and it would be great if that data was transferred.

Switch device wizard would be the way to go. Otherwise you could back up your data and restore it to your new device. That does not back up 3rd party apps. To back those up, follow these steps:

Bold is better build quality, better materials used, better speakerphone, solid, I would go with the bold have had both curve and bold.

you will def like the switch. i used to have the 8300 and im on the bold. overall it is a nice upgrade in a way it feels like a 8800 which i think was the best blackberry made. one thing you might have an issue with is that the 3g does use up alot of your battery power. if you are a crackberry addict then you might want to get a 2nd battery or get the bold debranded so you can enable the 2g aka EDGE.

You appear right about the 8800. My mother goes through 3 Curves a year due to the track ball no longer tracking. I go through 2 Curves a year for the same thing - trackball. Every. Single. Time. Now I am sick of that problem. My sister has an 8800 and the track ball just keeps on rolling... as we replace Curve after Curve. Frustrating...

I have to wait until June for the cash to buy the Bold. I am still a little a concerned about the battery. I did some reading about unbranding to go to 2G but it sounds like you can't use mass storage device anymore and the warranty would be void. Based on my past experience with how often Blackberry's break - voiding your warranty would be a bad idea. The 2 battery is not a bad idea...

hey sandy you are right about the mass storage but there is a 2 min fix for that. also once you know how to debrand the phone its easy to bring it back to stock format. as i type this i am holding my nokia E90 becuase my bold is charging even with the edge connetion. i am getting to the point where i feel it might be a batery issue. but when i first got the bold the battery life would not last me half the day. the new curve is out i played with it at the ATT store but felt a little cheap. i just got the nokia E71x last night its a great phone but took it back today because no blackberry support. there is a way to add it but it was more work then debranding a blackberry. if you need blackberry service and a good phone you might want to look at nokia phones they do a great job.

You know your current problem may indeed be a battery issue. I did have that problem with one of my Curves - the store ended up getting me a new battery. If you are still under warranty maybe check it out...

i think im going to do that im going to call them or go into a store and see what they can do. the battery even on edge just dies half way into my day. other then text message and email and some music playback and IM thats all i do. well i doget about 50-75 emails doing stock trades also 30-40 business emails. i am not counting the spam which is another 30 emails.

That is quite a bit of mail. Still, I think you should do better than a half day on edge. Go into the store - I bet you would get a more positive response if you did it "face to face." I have noticed they have a tendency to "blame the user" when you talk on the phone with them. I have done better in the store myself...

I have the bold and had some of the same issues. When I switched from my beloved pearl. Well, it was well worth the switch! I did use a curve that my girlfriend gave me because she wanted the google phone. I hated the keys and the screen was about the same as the pearl in terms of quality. It is a major upgrade. I have had my Bold 3 weeks now and couldnt be happier. RIM did a fantastic job on the fit and finish absolutely top notch!

Curve...we are talking of the 1st gen. and not the 8900...? right? If so then how does the Curve 8900 compare to the Bold?

I'm w/T-Mo and coverage south of Houston is poor and our company uses ATT and when I'm on call the Razor has all 5 bars any where...so I's like your feedback on the Curve Vice the Bold thanks all maybe fathers day deals w/ providers LOL...ha...
