Default Another Pearl Upgrade...

Please Login to Remove!

Funny, I just recieved an email from tmo sending me to a site to upgrade my Pearl. I looked at the upgrade and I already have the latest and greatest...am I missing something and did anyone else get the same email?

I think there is a lag between the OS being available and when T-Mo sends the e-mails announcing such.

On my 7100t they had an upgrade OS, which I installed. About a month later I got an e-mail from T-Mo announcing its availability.

Clearly they simply send out the e-mails to everyone as a cost savings maneuver. It would take a lot of time to send out the announcement only to those people who needed the upgrade. Since T-Mo does not know who has what on their phones, they wisely send out a mass announcement.

that disappoints me cause of the simple fact that they gather all this information on people and their phones not to mention knowing what plans the customers are currently on. It's not like T-Mobile is another Sprint/Nextel where one doesn't see the other in terms of intergration.

I didn't realize carriers gather information on what version of the OS people are running.

let me clarify, the information that they gather on the phones would be the make and model for a tailored email of upgrades that would be forthcoming.

T-Mo does not know who has what on their individual phones. Just look at all the posts on BBF to see all the variations of OS's installed. I like it that way. I don't want to see the day coming where T-Mo is monitoring my phone, much like what MS does when one had "auto update" set on the PC.

It makes sense to me that rather than contact each BB user to ask what he or she has installed on the phone [which would be logistically expensive], T-Mo simply announces that an OS is available. I don't know how expensive it would be to set up an electronic/digital system to check a user's phone to determine if an upgrade is needed.
