Default BB Torch and BES problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

I wonder if there is anyone out there who can help/advise on the following problem:

I've got my personal BB Torch with the data plan and I want to get my work emails and calendar on my phone. I can access all that at home via the Outlook Web Access, but for some reason it doesn't work on my BB, even though my colleagues get their emails on Iphones or Windows Mobile phones with no problem!

So I tried to get the BES activated. I asked IT people at work to have an account, they provided the password....and it doesn't work! When I input my email address and the password I got from them, after about 10 minutes I get a message 'THE BLACKBERRY ENTERPRISE SERVER HAS NOT RESPONDED TO YOUR ACTIVATION REQUEST'. and whilst the device is trying to contacting the server, some kind of BB email message appears in my inbox, but then disappears as soon as I get the failure message.

Could this be because I use my personal phone? Or maybe my BES account hasn't been set up properly?

Many thanks in advance for all help.

You probably only have a BIS data plan on your wireless account. You need a BES data plan to activate on BES. Usually about $10-$15 more per month on your bill.
Not sure what Orange's pricing is.

For BES you will need BlackBerry Enterprise service on the account with your service provider.

In my environment we block blackberrys from connecting via BIS (OWA) and have ActivSync disabled which is how iPhones and Androids connect.

You would have to check with your IT dept about connecting your blackberry via OWA

thanks for help guys, looks like BES is out of question as they ask £20 a month! Do you think getting OWA access is doable?

That's a question for your IT department.
Also, you'll only get email. No contacts or calendar sync with BIS/OWA.

Another couple of things to think about:

What can a BES Administrator “see” on my BB...

What can my BES Admin see on my BlackBerry handheld ... ??? - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection

I need help on the opposite of the above. My company just put IT Policy locks on our phones. My phone is not owned by the company so I changed my service from BES to BIS and my company removed my phone from their system. My problem is now my phone locks every 10 minutes and I can not remove the password lock. I have been looking through forums for days with no real understanding of what to do. I believe I need to reset my phone to factiry setting but am unclear on how to do this. I need simple step by step instructions as I am not technical. I have a Torch
