No problem. The 03 in 8703 designates a different device. In this case 8703 (a CDMA device) vs. the 8700 (a GSM device.)

I did the upgrade and it worked perfectly. (Curious, did anyone else have to fill out their information like name, address, etc. when they downloaded OS?)

So far, all looks good but will play with for a bit. It's pretty cool. Question tho...any way you can delete preloaded wallpapers? Used to be able to do that before, now it seems I can't.

Any ideas? I'd like to free up some space.

I thought I'd list some of the differences that I saw with this new OS compared to TM's .346 OS software. This may have already been listed somewhere but I didn't see it myself. So some differences are;

1. Of course with the provided .xml file you unlock all the vendor themes and there's quite a few.

2. Zen theme works great on this OS as all icons for email, messenger, etc. work perfectly. (Didn't work for me on .346)

3. Picture caller ID - really cool!

4. Attach files to emails! (you can attach images from your 'picture's folder' and email to someone. I haven't actually sent an email yet doing this but feature is there.

5. The email program in general just seems more flexible.

There are probably more features I'm not mentioning here but just loaded it last night so still working it out. I'm going to test it around to see how the phone works but so far, so good.

The instructions to upgraded were super easy to follow. Thanks!

I upgraded without a hitch, but now accepting appointments in the Calendar fails. The acceptance message is created and queued up to send, but then it fails with a red X and "Unlisted message error" as the error message. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I'm on T-mobile w/ BES, obviously.

I haven't seen any other problems with this update, though.

You can load this on any 8700. I'm running it now on my 8700g.

Default xml file

I upgraded to 4.2 but do not find a Vendor xml file to delete. Why is it supposed to be deleted anyway?

The vendor.xml file is what 'locks' the phone to only allow certain themes that apply to that carrier. By replacing that file and replacing it with the blackberry.xml file provided with the initial instructions you open up all carrier themes. And there are quite a few. But it's not something that's absolutely necessary to do.

The vendor .xml file is in: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files

If you do a search on the forum for deleting vendor.xml files you'll get more detailed instructions as to how to do so if you're not sure.
Good luck.

Default Desktop Manager Service Pack 1 & 2

It's good to know I did not mess up! Now my next question is...
Should I install Desktop Manager Service Pack 1 & 2? Is it real important
that I do that?

Everyone is so nice to help!
Thanks

Actually, the vendor.xml file restricts what version of OS the application loader will load. The blackberry.alx file is what controls which themes are loaded when an OS is loaded. Deleting the vendor.xml file is what you need to do to load an OS version from a different carrier so you're absolutely fine.

Anybody aware of how to make a software update to my blackberry if I'm running a mac? Is there anyway I can tap into the update through the phone or should I take it to ATT and have them update? Thanks guys!

You can't update OTA, and you can't update with a mac. You need a PC. If you don't have access to a PC then taking it to ATT might be the best (if they know how to do it.)

sounds good. I'll probably stop by ATT and see what they can do since I have a few other questions as well. Thanks.

The only issue I am still having with 4.2 is that after a few days, I have to resend a lot of my messages because they fail the instant I send them. Resetting the device cures this for a few days.

I upgraded yesterday evening, and my first thoughts are that the new OS is a tad slower than the old one. Is anyone else experiencing the dreaded hourglass more post upgrade?

Also, I think the new themes are hideous. I absolutely loved the Cingular Icon theme that was on the old OS, and even with all of the themes unlocked, I cannot find one that is clear and easy to navigate. With the old theme, only important icons were on the home screen. Any additional applications (games, gmail, gmm, etc) were located in the applications folder, out of the way. I just think the new AT&T theme is espically cluttered looking, what with only 5 icons across and that huge header.

Anyone have any insight how I could roll back to the previous theme only and keep the new OS?
