Default Can Unite give me push IMAP Gmail?

Please Login to Remove!

I really want to enable IMAP with my Gmail (so I'll get reconciliation of read messages, etc), but with BIS, this leads to the 15 minute delay in receiving new messages. If I use Unite with my Gmail account, can I have instant Gmail and reconcilation?

Yes. Not instant, but much faster than BIS.

Sounds good. I don't actually need instant. Do you think 60 seconds or so or better is possible?

I get my gmail instantly now on BIS, however BIS by default uses POP. I wanted to move to IMAP so I don't have to mark all my messages read twice, but on BIS that means 15 minute delays.

I think I'll try Unite and see what my Gmail IMAP experience is like.

I dont use the web site so I guess thats why I dont think about the reconcile. I use outlook and it pulls them down if I dont delete them on the handheld. If I delete on the handheld it deletes on the website

I'm curious to how it went ? Is it near instant using Gmail IMAP ?

I'm also interested. I want to move mine to IMAP but want to keep the instant delivery. Any updates?

I have been playing around with BB Unite and testing IMAP Gmail Support.

Here are my findings:

When you add any @gmail.com account it will use a predefined Gmail server setting called "gmailpop". I tried to give it a dummy email address and then enter the IMAP info but the software noticed the Gmail domain and went back to the predefined config.

I even went poking around in the SQL server and changed the protocol type in the table HBMboxAcct from "gmailpop" to "imap" and that didn't work. After the server was started up it changed it back to "gmailpop".

I tested a different imap account (Gmail hosted app) and while the email was delivered much faster then BIS w/IMAP it didn't mark any messages with opened or unopened.

The other major let down is no HTML email support. This is a big one for me. I have become attached to HTML support on the BB.

With all of the above in mind I will move my email accounts back to BIS and just use Unite for the file sync and private Internet browser (both work very well might I add..).

One more thing to note, with the Unite browser I can surf within my internal home network (yeah!).

My config is a BB8320 running v4.5.0.52 (platform .66) with TMO BIS/BES and H@H. Unite version is 1.0.1.
