The 8820 already has WiFi and gps. The 9000 BlackBerry has both but won't be "early" next year.

Isn't there a Pearl coming out with WiFi, GPS and camera? If that's true, I don"t see why they couldn"t fit all three items into a Curve.

I'm plenty happy with my 8800 right now! Want a curve for my girl!

3G would be nice but it kills a battery

There will be no 8340 device. As mentioned before, we have seen the end of the 8000 series, with the exception of the 8330 (and the 8110 should see a release in early 2008, although it may not come stateside).

I was under the impression that rim could not fit the gps, and wifi chipsets in the curve. I read that somewhere. I also read in the same article that rim originally wanted to do that but there were limiations in the design to allow gps, wifi and a camera.

its not 3G alone that decimates the battery. Its lack of an efficient CPU which is the primary reason (along with internal circuitry), followed by an OS not augmented to powersave properly, then with processing intensive applications that are running code in serial telling the OS to run a thread until complete all at one before going to the next thread. Futhermore, having memory (RAM) far away from the cpu will reduce battery efficiency as well.

Main culprit is the Xscale cpu ... its really OLD and shouldn't even be produced today. we need low power dual core dual duty cpu's like Texas instruments or what qualcomm has been innovating in.

Some carriers haven't even seen it yet namely Sprint and Verizon. I want to switch to sprints bb but not sure I want the 8800 without camera.

No ... I don't think that rumor is true. That rumor with started with a device code named papa bear or something like that. People thought it was gonna be a Pearl with both wifi and gps. It turns out it was the Pearl with GPS released as the 8130.

I'm with you. My contract will be up in spring, and I'm switching to Sprint for various reasons. I'm hoping they will have the curve by then, but if not I'll be going with the pearl.

papa bear was codename for 8310 and still is. we wont see an 8340, however we could see something like an EDGE version of 9000 series, RIM always likes to do variations of their devices.

Pfffft nobody needs a CDMA curve ... The world is GSM anyways. Bring on the BB 9000 for the world and give the curve to CDMA at the same time .... Several months late like always. Bring on the 9000, VZW people can wait, they are used to it anyways!

Verizon must be doing something right. They are the #1 carrier in the U.S. Let's face it, not many Americans travel abroad with there cell phones. No need to have GSM.
