Not too shabby, huh. I think most of the posts were actually decent too!

bb_tech, question....

Do you know if a 4.0 beta software exists for any of the nextel models? I'd be most interested in the 7510 but was wondering if you knew if the software existed?

Anyone using the beta software with t-mobile. Curious how it's working out and if the public mds thingy works yet.

I am and it seems to work well. The public MDS is maybe not as polished as it could be and still get some interesting 400 and 500 errors, but the OS as a whole runs great.

Thanks, that's great to hear. Now I got to try and get my hands on 4.0. I was paying for a private mds service up until a few months ago, I really miss the im ability.

That could be due to older handheld software as well, remember it is still only a beta after all.

I get those errors surfing the web all the time via wap, probably just the tmobile network timing out or something...

I think the problem is everyone with free t-zones or unlimited data. Great deals to be had a tmobile, but too many people on the network at one time...

Chuck, have you tried any instant messenger programs with the public mds? I used to use webmessenger, but it always acted funky. Do you get a lot of problems with the that also?

I don't do any instant messaging, the email is so quick and most of my messages come from coworkers on the interactive Mobitex network, don't need it. My BB is quicker than normal email, why would I want to mess with it?

I hear ya, that's what I love about the bb. I just want the im so I can send a quick msg to a friend, coworker or even the wife. That is the main thing I wish the bb did better.

It's easy...either get a job at RIM or get a job at once of RIM's bigger clients
And that doesn't even necessarily help :D
You may not need to work for RIM to get your hands on the new 4.0. Check this out:

I don't quit know what it'll take to be a "release candidate" though.

That's the server, not the operating system.

However, having the 4.0 server may make it more likely that you are able to obtain the 4.0 handheld operating system.

So you BES admins could go for it, to try and get on RIM's good side -- they are probably close to releasing a public beta of the 4.0 handheld operating system for business customers of certain carriers at least. (if they get carrier permission, such as Rogers) It's only the Right Thing to do, if they are doing a public beta of the 4.0 BES.

Already on it ;) Should have an answer whether or not we'll be approved for beta-testing by the end of the week.
