Default My Biggest Beef with Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

So, I love my 7280, but I have 1 major problem with it (aside from the lack of Bluetooth) - when I'm in a call and have to spell something on my keypad (i.e. somebody's name in a directory), there are no letters on the numeric keys! Would it really be that hard to make the keys on the keyboard correspond to the numeric keys? What I mean is that if I have to spell Smith, I should be able to type S M I T H and the Blackberry should send the corresponding 7 6 4 8 4! Maybe I'm just being picky and I should just suck it up and try to visualize the keys on my cell phone every time this happens, but it just seems like an easy software fix.

Anybody know if this is a feature in OS 4? Anybody else annoyed by this?

Surprisingly a lot of people have that beef and it is totally understandable. Unfortunately it is not changed in 4.0 and people may have to deal with it for awhile longer.

See the section on how to alpha dial.

Nice tip! Learn something new every day. On my unit (7230 TMO), I have to hold the left alt key to get it to alpha-dial but other than that it's great. Thanks 8)

Wow! Thanks Foobar!

I guess it would have been nice if Rogers had actually provided me with a manual when I bought it...

Check your desktop manager it should be there and will have been on the cd that came with your blackberry.

Didn't get a CD...had to download the software on my own and for some reason it doesn't have it included - tells me to look in the installation drive (it's not there) or to contact my service provider.

Rogers....

I swear to you, I must tell someone every week about DTMF Lots of our guys have never had the need, nor have they ever had anything lo look at to try and figure it out.

Then again, these are the same people who didn't realize that they could have their calendars synchronize wirelessly. Hee :D

How do you synchronize your calendar wirelessly--please don't make fun of us "amateurs" as I'm sure there are things you too are a novice at...I'll be happy to name them if you like...

If you depress left shift, then alt, then release both, it will set alpha dialing permentantly on until you press the alt key again.

I have now added the alphanumeric dialing tip to the bottom of the "Blackberry Tips And Tricks" thread.
