options > media card > encryption is it ON? try turning it to OFF if it is ON.

i believe that all those images will remain with encryption on, and you might be able to rename them using the media app > menu > explore > go to the file name > menu > rename and see if you can get rid of the extension.

here's the trick.
highlight the file, menu, rename...

example: joe.jpg.rme rename to joee (you can't modify the extension)
save it, and it saves it without the rem.

I did something similar where I moved pictures to my computer, formatted the media card, and copied the pictures back. Even though I only had password encryption (not device or password plus device) I could not open them.

What I found out is that there is a "system" folder in the same directory as the "pictures" folder that contains a file "info.mkf". The device makes a new "info.mkf" file, but only when I copied the old one back on was I able to open the pictures.

I don't know what it's doing, but the file appears to be different even though the password is the same. It must be some kind of generated encryption key. If you've deleted that file, I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. Try an undelete program perhaps.

I also have the problem of the .jpg.rem, but the thing is, I can't even view them on my BB either, they are just blank document icons with a green arrow. When I click on a .jpg.rem photo, it says "Unable to display file /Media Card/Blackberry/pictures/

I've tried everything, turning off all the encryption options (both in Security as well as Media Card). I've also tried emailing the .jpg.rem photos, but no dice, the photos wouldn't show.

I've also tried to copy/move the .jpg.rem photos to the Device Memory, but it says "File System Error".

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Default How to remove encryption from photos with .rem

The best option is to use the media manager software that comes installed with Desktop Manager. I would use the latest version which is currently 4.7, but 5.0 will be released soon. One note though, if you have a machine that is part of a domain the media manager application will not install unless you use the computers local Administrator account. It wont work with an account that is part of the Administrators group.

The other option is to email the files to yourself. That process will remove the .rem from the file and it will be a readable .jpg file.

One issue that I have not been able to resolve is the ability to remove the .rem on files that are stored on the device memory, like the Bold 1gig storage. The media manager app will not remove the .rem from the file. Your only option to remove the .rem is to email the pictures. I am currently working with RIM to open a service request to the engineering team to look into this issue.

I had that encryption thing on for a while and ended up with the same problem...

Today I discovered that if I "move" the rem file to another blackberry photo subfolder (create one) then the rem image gets coverted to normal and I can now view it in Windows Vista via the USB cable...
