Default Questions from a complete and utter newbie.

I want a phone/pda that syncs easily with Outlook on my PC. That is a great phone for use in the car, handsfree. That let's me browse the 'real' internet i.e. not some WAP subset. That lets me receive Word docs and Excel docs as attachments to emails and then lets me edit them from my laptop. Especially useful when I go abroad. That (ideally) connects to my home wi-fi network so I can access and copy files to/from my PC around the house. And doesn't cost a fortune to run.

Can a Blackberry 7100 do all this or am I living in cloud cuckoo land?
If it can't, what can?

afiak the blackberry will not do everything you want to do.

One thing I can name is it will not connect to your 802.11x network.

Maybe an ipaq h6315 is more along your lines, but beware, it's not great to talk on as a phone, and it's quite slow to be used heavily as a PPC.

Thanks Neutral.
I can live without the wi-fi as long as a cable will do the same i.e transfer files... not sure the USB on the loganberry 7100 will do this though. Does anyone know?

Thank you

Someone earlier mentioned about "eFile", which is a service that allows you to do this. I'm not sure how it works, and I really don't think it uses the USB cable.

I haven't looked into it, but it sounds like it hosts files on a website which you can browse the open directory, and save what you need.

What type of files would you be needing to transfer? If you're talking about the .doc and .pdf that you had mentioned, that can be done using email.

Basically I want to sit on a beach with my blackberry and a laptop and receive docs by email, transfer them to the laptop for editing and then send them back. Anything else is a bonus.

You could use the 7100 as a modem and download the email right to your laptop.

You may want to lookin to the Microsoft Smartphone series phones - they offer a little more of what you are looking for - email (no push, but pull), wifi (most likely with 3rd party card), bluetooth. I recommend www.mobilegadgetnews.com - they have a good user-base on the MS Smartphone based hardware.
