Default a media card is not presently inserted in the device.

Please Login to Remove!

The titled message is what I've gotten after properly inserting my 1GB MicroSD card (Kingston). It just arrived today.

These are the instrux I followed: SLB: Blackberry 8800 xxx8211; How to install a microSD card xxx8211; Step-by-Step

Not sure what to do at this point...do I send it back to buy.com?

These are the options selected in my Media Card settings:

Media Card Support - On
Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Yes

And FYI - I did a search on this error string in this forum, and came back with no hits, so please don't pull out the flame guns.

Thanks.

Try using the Micro sd in a sd adapter and using the card in another source, such as a camera. At least this way you will know if it is the card, BB, or the install of the card. It is a quick fix, but at least you will know the card status and be able to go from there.

Did you format it? Mine gave me an error until I formatted it.

Not sure if 4g card will work. 8800 specs say that it's compatible up to 2g. Read the specs again carefully.

4G will work on the 8830 but I don't think it works on the 8800.

I'm having the same problem right now with a SanDisk 2G card I bought at Costco. Initially, the phone recognized the card, and displayed 1.8G available memory. I don't know what prompted it to eventually display the error message, but I'm highly annoyed!!!!! I've tried a hundred different approaches to formatting the card, and with NO success.

I had this problem a couple times in the past. Here's what I did. I took out the battery and then reinsert my mSD card again. Reboot and voila....I was back in business. I noticed that this situation sometimes occurs when you plug / unplug from the USB cable when "enable mass storage".

If it's not fixable, does that mean the memory card will work, but the phone doesn't acknowledge the card, or should I be returning the memory card?

I've tried all of the afore-mentioned suggestions, all with no success. I thought that formatting it in my (6-year-old) digital camera might fix the problem...no such luck.

I had this problem too.. new 8830 and came with a 1GB microSD card, but the phone would not recognize it.

Thanks to a few suggestions I found here, this is how I got it to work in this order:

- I put the card into the SD adapter and formatted it FAT32 on a Windows XP machine
- I made sure the "Media Card Support" option was On, along with Mass Storage Support
- I took the battery out of my Blackberry
- I installed the card into the BB
- I put the battery back in

After successful booting, I checked Options and there it was.. "Free Space: 968MB"

Just for good measure, I pressed the menu button and did a "Format Card" on the Blackberry. After, it read "Free Space: 970MB"

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers

People, if you have Mass Storage enabled and you're plugged into the USB on a PC/Laptop, the Media Card functions on the phone will error out like this. You can't be in Mass Storage and have Media Card access on the phone's OS at the same time. 90% of the time, this is the case with this question from people.
