Default 7210 (Blueberry)

Please Login to Remove!

I am reviving an old 7210. The hardware is working great. I would like to use some of the applications on it and retrieve the data off of it to my PC, but I don't plan to activate it to any service. When I originally got it it was from T-Mobile.

Here are my questions:

1. Where can I find the desktop software for it that works with Windows XP. The desktop software from the RIM site does not support this model. So so far I have not been able to access it from my PC.

2. Is there anything I can install on this device (without having wireless service) that will allow it to read PDF files (not as e-mail attachments). Free would be nice.

Thank you for any help!

Assuming you have the password for the device. Download desktop manager from BlackBerry - BlackBerry Help & Support Services - Get Step By Step Setup Instructions and follow instructions for use.

keep in mind it will only work as a cell phone for calls and not much else without a blackberry data plan.

Thank you for your reply.

I have the password for the device because I am the original owner.

I have already been to that link prior to my last post and could't find anything that helped with either of my questions for the 7210. Where do I find "BlackBerry Help & Support Services - Get Step By Step Setup Instructions?" I don't see it anywhere on that page.

Also, I will not be using this device as a cell phone or have any kind of wireless service at all on it. I only want to use it as a kind of PDA.

Thank you. I have already been to that page too.

Under the "Downloads" tab it has a link called "Download BlackBerry® Desktop Software" (I would post the actual link, but this forum does not allow me to post it).

I went to that link and downloaded the "BlackBerry Desktop Software," for the Windows OS. I installed it. But even though that link is listed in the 7210 section as you pointed too, it apparently does not support the 7210 device because when I tried to use it, Windows recognized the device, but the Blackberry Desktop software called it an "unknown device." When I try the "connect to device" button it says "unrecognized BlackBerry device."

So apparently that Desktop software does not support this device. That's the point when I came here looking for someone who knows what is going on.

I may be better off looking for the CD although I don't have any idea where I may have put it at the moment. I don't seem to be getting anywhere this way. But I appreciate the help anyway.

I know of no reason the newer versions of Desktop Manager will not work with the older BlackBerry models. And what you are seeing can have many other explanations. My advice is troubleshoot as a connection problem. There is a sticky post here on the forum somewhere, and also a knowledgebase article at blackberry.com.

EDIT: By "work" I mean you should be able to connect, sync PIM data, and backup, at least. I can't recall ever seeing any information to the contrary.

The 7210 is the first color BB and was designed as a primary BES email/PDA device. The OS level was around 3.1 and doing some reading I have not been able to find any reference to any form of DM it used. About the only thing RIM offers is a pdf on how to use it for TTY mode. This link "claims" to have some software. No clue how good. It's NOT RIM
