Default Sprint 8830 Dead?

Please Login to Remove!

I attempted the BlackBerry OS upgrade on my 8830, and it didn't work...

I got a message fairly quickly from Desktop Manager saying that it had been unable to connect to the device after reboot during multi phase installation (or something similar).

I waited over an hour, and never saw a change on my BlackBerry. At that point, I tried hitting keys, the screen wouldn't wake up, and pulling the battery had no effect either.

So from what I can tell, the 8830 is now completely dead.

Do I have any options?

Pull the battery, put it back in, then restart the loader on your PC

Try a different USB port when you try to load the OS again. Make sure it is connected directly the the PC, not a USB hub.

Ok, it appears one of the problems was the battery.

By pulling the battery and leaving it out, I was able to get "unknown device" to show up as well as a blinking red light (neither of those would happen with the battery plugged in).

I tried the process again, it erased applications, said it was loading applications, then it gave me the same message as before:

"Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation."

On the plus side, though, THIS TIME, instead of a black screen, now I have a very dim white screen with a "no battery" icon on it.

Is this where I leave it sit for an hour, or is it even doing anything?

If you get the Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation, this usually indicates low powered USB port. When you receive this error, the installation stops.

I had this problem before. I corrected it by going into my power management section and setting the computer to always provide power and not power anything down. I also went into device manager and turned off power saving on the power tab for each of my usb ports. Can't say which fixed it, but didn't feel like troubleshooting it any further.

Try it and see if it helps. Other than that, you could try a powered usb hub, it may work...

I ended up being able to put my battery back in and that fixed it.

I think what was happening is the process "rebooted" the phone, and it ended up losing power (because of no battery) and thus failed.

Regardless, it upgraded to the latest Sprint firmware.... and that is when I found out it wasn't 4.5. :((((

I am going to make another post now to see if there exists a stable 4.5 version for Sprint 8830's. I did some searches and only found one beta that was supposedly very buggy...

Wirelessly posted (BB 7130e)

I have been using 4.5.0.101 without any real issues. My Sprint TV works, Youtube works, and all apps that I have used previously are working with no issues.
