Hi all,

i have a little problem and a few questions...
i have bes 3.6 in production enviroment (12 users) and we are planing to migrate to 4.0.
i have installed bes 4.0 in a host to make tests and when i entered the SRP ID and key, the production BES has been disconnected from SRP (one hour ago...)!!!

i have read about it and i think i have to contact RIM to have the srp unlocked.

my question is...
¿is that correct or is there another method to unlock the srp connection? ping and telnet goes well...

the other question is the one of the topic: is there any method to have two bes with the same SRP configured in any enviroment? (maybe with the same public IP nated?)
how could i make tests with the bes4.0 software without stopping production enviroment?

Call RIM for a test license. You can get 60day eval licenses for doing your testing.

You cannot use the same SRP for two servers. It will disable the SRP and a phone call to RIM will be required to reactivate it.

Yes it is possible for two servers to have the same SRP ID....It happened to me last week Wednesday. Couldn't figure why I kept getting disconnected (4 times). Called RIM and spent the better part of the weekend discussing what could cause it. Final conclusion...another company in Montana is using the same SRP ID and authentication keys....don't ask me how. I asked the client the same question...no response. My client purchased the software since May 2001.
Maybe RIM saw no activity with the ID and decided to re-sell it...
Anyway...RIM created a new authentication key which I inserted and the BES is up an running at the moment.

In that respect, I suppose you can have 2 servers with the same SRP, but they will not both work

If they can set a different Auth Key for the same SRP Identifier, then it will work. In the fashion that the original poster was talking about, it will not work. Someone simply putting in the same SRP Identifier and different Auth Key would not trigger a disconnection - its the combination of both. I'm curious as to how their provisioning would allow multiple Auth Keys for the same SRP, though.

First of all thanks a lot for your answers...
i called "vodafone" and now we are waiting vodafone's call to rim to solve the problem.... i hope it doesn't delay too much...

the curiosity is the way the srp licensing method works, because i think that if the second connection arrives with the same SRP id and key, it should be droped but never locking the license....

what could happend if anyone get the ids and keys of some SRPs?

i think its a good method they have to prevent piracy of their product. if they didn't have this in place and simply relied on a team of theft prevention, then i think they'd be in a shitstorm of trouble. the method they have in place is a good one.

this is a security meassure that is enforced on the rim servers. if more than one IP address tries to connect using the Same SRP identifier it will disable any communication until they are contacted to re-enable.

This is a scary thought and contravenes Security! Oddly enough when I inputted the SRP Authentication Key the key had changed value in Blackberry Manager and I could not communicate with RIM Relay NOC! I was a real bind to try the SRP Auth Key back to the correct one!

You can call them for Tech Support, BES support and tell them you need your SRP reset. they do it without a support contract (have them on the phone right now!). Their number is 1-877-255-2377.
