I uninstalled VZ Navigator very first thing (no desire to spend $ on it)...
I opened up BB Maps (haven't installed Google Maps yet)... Got 11 satelites and worked wonderfully. You do have to push the "start GPS" button... on the screen.
It showed me speed and direction even...
After I get Google installed I'll let you know what I find there.

BTW the internal GPS works with RobLock. This is a BB retrieval service that shows you where your device is on Dexmobile's website. You can also remote lock, wipe and retrieve contacts using this service. I tested it on my Storm and it works. The GUI is not the greatest on the storm due to compatibility issues. But you only set it once and forget about it.
P.S. I am not affiliated with them, nor am I advertising their product, I am merely sharing with you guys that the GPS works on the Storm for device retrieval.

I tried using BB Maps today while I was in a moving car, and it was overcast, and couldn't get a signal. I'm going to try again when it's not overcast and see what I get.

Another reason why I rely on my Garmin GPS. Have never had worse than 14ft accuracy in the heaviest of snow storms or rain.

Has anyone been able to get BB Maps to work outside of the US? I´m traveling right now in Mexico and cannot get a lock on a single sat with the Storm...my Bold on the other hand, is rock solid...perfect signal. I was on with Verizon CS and then Verizon Blackberry Global Support, who said it was a RIM problem and then sent me to India so that someone who knew less than I did would try to help me...after 45 minutes and the third hold I hung up...what a joke, no wonder my RIM stock is in the tank.
Anyone have an idea? Again, my Bold is rock solid, perfect signal and obviously working Google Maps, though I understand what with the Storm being a radically new device for RIM that lots of software will not work, but....anyone have a clue why my BB Maps is not working on my storm. And yes, all settings are correct, gps is on, location is on, etc...I deleted the service book and re-pushed it and still no go...HELP!

Been trying to use BB Maps GPS but can't seem to get it working at all, even on a clear day in an open area. I did get it to work once the day after I got my Storm, but I think after that random "core applications" update it hasn't worked at all.

I am able to connect to several sattelites in BB maps, but my location is shown is off by a few hundred miles and it shows me moving at anywhere between 20 and 400 MPH! Any way to calibrate the GPS?
Thank,
Grant

Well, my Storm is working much, much better after the recent update, but still no GPS lucks. Has ANYONE been able to get a sat lock with BB Maps while outside of the US? For a World Phone, it just seems somewhat ridiculous that it not work...I have a Bold on AT&T on BES for work, and IT WORKS!!? My Storm is for my personal email but I use the camera and GPS apps quite a bit for work and this truly irritates...oh well...looks like verizon locked the Storm's gps as always...I wonder how they're making it work for people in the US? Weird....

Whipped my Storm out in my friends car tonight and activated the GPS on BB Maps, found 11 satellites in a matter of seconds. Don't know what the heck is going on with GPS, but it's proving to be very unreliable.

Nav4All is working for me... though I don't particularly care for the software. Waiting for Garmin to update theirs so I can install.

15 Hours with VZ Navigator
I took a long car trip today (around 600 miles) and used VZ Navigator on the Storm about 85% of the time.
Quick Analysis: Gets about an 80% rating. Clearly not as good as a high-end stand-alone GPS, but as an accessory function, it is okay (not great, just okay).
Long Form: Most of the time, it worked really well. Periodically, it locked up and/or lost the satellites. When this happened, I checked BBMaps and about half the time it too had lost the satellites. For the bulk of my trip (NY to central Maryland), I had at least 8 satellites.
When passing cross roads, VZ NAV was consistently off by about 20 feet (always short of the mark). But merging and exiting were exact to within a couple of feet.
On a couple of occasions, it had me going perpendicular to the direction of travel for over 5 minutes.
A particularly annoying issue is that the lateral resolution is terrible. I crossed the George Washington bridge and instead of taking the local lanes as VZ NAV instructed, I took the express lanes. This placed me 50 or 60 feet to the side. VZ NAV did not detect this and gave me a totally incorrect instruction that would have sent me off into the wilderness of New Jersey had I not know where I was going.
This behavior was repeated on the way home when I again did not agree with the choice of routes to the GW Bridge (there is an Eastern and a Western spur; each a three lane road and separated by no less that 100 feet and sometimes a couple of miles). In this case, the GPS portion had me correctly located but the routing software had me on the wrong road and gave erroneous instructions. (To those readers not familiar with the New York City area: Sorry for the local references, but you can see the type of problems I encountered.)
To its credit (or possible just dumb luck) when I started my return trip, I blindly headed off without a thought as to where I was going or the fact thart I had no idea what I was doing (okay, I admit it was stupid, but I had just had a great meeting and was "preoccupied"). I flipped on the GPS and it immediately acquired the satellites in spite of my being in a blinding sleet storm (really) and steered me onto the highway.
The routing software has a mind of its own and it doesn't matter what the driver thinks or knows. On many occasions it persisted on sending me onto major truck routes without the slightest consideration of traffic conditions. As this software purports to be "Traffic Enhanced". I found this annoying, but at times, funny.
There is an Alert function which is supposed to let you know if there are problems ahead (6 - 7 miles). This information was accurate only once in about fifteen alerts. In fairness, there is no way to judge the accuracy of the alert data and VZ NAV is just reporting what it is told. It was still frustrating and anxiety provoking and there does not seem to be a way to turn it off.
So, is it worth it? At $10 per month, the cost of a good stand-alone GPS is amortized in 2 years. 73

We are also discussing GPS lock/unlock for BB Storm over on Howards Forum.
The latest version of Nav4All is working without the paying for VZW Nav service, so it would appear that the regular GPS (not assisted) is unlocked and can be used with non VZW/BB applications.
Many other apps are discussed including the amAzegps mentioned above, gps tracker, beyond 411, etc.

Help - How do I get Blackberry Maps on my Storm. No icon currently for it. Under advanced options > maps it just says Blackberry Maps - N/A. I also can't download it from the website as it says BB Maps is not supported by my Storm.
What other methods are out there to get it? How can Blackberry software not be compatible with their own devices?

iirc you need to download and install your current blackberry OS to your desktop, as if you were upgrading, so that you can select bbmaps to be installed in the application loader.
