Actually, today part should reflect, calendar, messages, and maybe some other stuff.
It will reflect on top once you scroll over the icon.

I can't fit six icons as there isn't enough space.
However, as far as Icons are concerned they are changeable and you can pick any icon that you want to show on the homescreen.
